Happy Birthday Katy!

October 18th, 2008

We turned our little Katy four today! I say it that way because we actually “turn” her four a wee bit early, in October of each year. Being born four days before Christmas just isn’t fun for any kid so we have hers a little early and she doesn’t have to share her day with a single Christmas tree!

This was her first big party, up until now its been family gatherings. I believe there were fifteen or sixteen kids there, trying to count kids on a playground can be rather difficult so I’m making an estimate! Katy had a wonderful time and we all agreed that this was likely the smoothest party we have ever thrown!

We served pulled pork bbq sandwiches with my sauce for the adults along with a german potato salad I made this morning. The kids got a menu of Katy’s favorites: Pb&j’s, grapes, carrots, and cheese puffs. The cake went over really well with only my son and his cousin balking at having to eat a “girl” cake!

Let me just say, for the record, that I was tired when I made this cake! The inside is purple, per Princess Katy’s request! The hairbow she is wearing is one I actually made last night thanks to the instructions of Beth at her Make a Hairbow site! I had never made a hairbow before and was pretty darn surprised at how nice my first effort looked!

Pardon the minor lack of clothing and bed hair. We have a tradition in our family which we’ve done as long as I can remember. The birthday boy or girl gets a biscuit with a candle to blow out first thing on the morning of their birthday! The biscuits are canned, I’m tellin’ ya, I was tired !:)
Here are the cute shots! Yesterday, I decided to treat Katy and the two of us went to get our nails done together. I’ve never done this with her before and wasn’t too sure how it would go. She LOVED it! She chose purple for her fingernails and pink for her toes. You just have to scroll through all of these to get to the really cute one! Note: Katy took drying her nails very seriously!

 How cute is that?
I look over and she was trying to get her foot right up there to the fan! It was so precious! We had a great time. This will definitely be a repeat event!
Happy Birthday, baby. I love you!

It looks like you had a blast. Thanks for sharing the picture of the bow with me. I am so glad that I was able to help you make it.

This is so cute!! I was trying to think of what to do for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas (pulling a major blank!) and you’ve given me a great idea – we’ll get our nails done! Or maybe for her birthday next year … I’ll see how it goes.

Ha-ha! That is so adorable! She is a cutie! Looks like she had a great birthday celebration and a great “mommy ‘n me” treat day. My kids are 21, 20, 19, 16 and 9. I still try to do special one on one (mommy n me) days with them. They love it and never outgrow it. I swear it makes them more confident and outgoing people. Love the story and the pics – made me smile. :o )

My birthday is 12/19, so I know how she feels! I used to tell my mom not to wrap my birthday presents in Christmas paper, but this past 12/19, we celebrated our Christmas early, because she was terminally ill and we didn’t think she would make it to Christmas day. She passed away on 12/27 – I think she was holding on so our Christmas day would not be ruined. We really should have had our Christmas earlier than the 19th, because she was already slipping away and was not able to enjoy it. Just wish she were still with us, but at least she’s not suffering anymore.
