During the first meal she ate with my dad's parents while they were dating, my mom recalls that dessert was "banana pudding" -- layered vanilla wafers & sliced bananas with milk poured over them. They were shocked when she produced a homemade baked version.

Early in my marriage to my second husband, I made banana pudding -- also homemade -- at his request, and if he hadn't already married me, I believe he'd have done it over that dish.

Hey! You would need to add more flour, probably double it, for it to work as a filling. Also, allow it to cool and make a dam of regular icing to hold it in. Hope this helps!

I just made this recipe for my family and it was yummy! This is definitely a keeper. Actually, we ate a bowl of pudding before our actual supper.. never done that before but it kept calling our names. ;) Lol. And to whomever asked about the flour (either plain or self-rising), I used plain.

Great recipe! I was a firm believer in instant pudding (not much of a cook when I first married), but as I've ventured more into cooking and baking, I've developed better taste. I tried this once - yes as a novice - and my husband flipped. He was standing in the kitchen eating bowl after bowl. Now I am banned from making the instant version, but hey, with a husband that happy I don't want to go back. Thank you for sharing. Happy Holidays All!
