I am going to try this recipe. I agree though. I prefer the homemade rather than the “instant”. I was even told one time they taste the same. HA! Not true. Christy, I do love your site and am glad I came across it.

THIS is the sort of Banana Pudding we southern gals from Tennessee grew up on too, no boxed “instant” pudding here either, but… we still LOVE the lightly browned fluffy meringue! YUM YUM… love it, my Daddy always “insisted” on having this for his birthday, vs. ANY OTHER dessert…. NO CAKE for that precious soul, and we loved it equally after it was refrigerated … nice cold dessert the following day, too! Yummy….

Nadia, my Mississippi “Mammaw” made this same recipe and she ALWAYS put a meringue on top. She just baked it at in an overn set at 350 degrees until brown. But, watch it carefully! You don’t want it too brown.

My mom taught me this same exact recipe EXCEPT… she makes it in the microwave! Comes out fabulous every time and looks exactly like your finished product. Cook on high a minute at a time stirring at each interval. Works like a charm

Thanks for a real banana pudding recipe. I’m searching for one and finding all sorts of additions and (God forbid) a zillion recipes calling for instant pudding! Blaspheme. If I was going to use instant pudding I would just read the directions on the box.
Thank you for threatening to come after people putting cool whip on this. Though I’m sure it has it’s place, that stuff isn’t even food.
