Regarding The Changes To The Southern Plate Website (Just hang in there for a few days!)

*update 11-18-08 7:30 AM: We implemented the new template last night and now just have some tweaking to do and a few more features to add! It’ll continually get more organized over the next few days! Hope you love it as much as we do!

After a little email feedback I felt I needed to email all of you and let you know that the new design for Southern Plate is not permanent. In the process of changing over to a different platform (and server), we spent a few sleepless nights working to make sure all of my past posts and recipes were transferred seamlessly. There was a lot of manual work that had to be done and so that was, of course, what we had to focus our time on.

We are now working on the design. The old design was on a blogger acct and wouldn’t just transfer over, so we had to start from scratch. We have a new design (we being me and my husband whom I have now drafted as my personal webmaster – a.k.a. slave) and are working on getting everything all set up in it. Once we are done and have it all organized and visually appealing, we will activate it and Southern Plate will be instantly more user friendly and visually appealing than ever before!

I received an email from someone who was very upset about how the site looks now and I am so grateful that they are that passionate about Southern Plate. Please know though, that however passionate you are, I am even more so. Southern Plate is my baby and I have a deep emotional attachment to everything featured on that site as well as to all of the wonderful comments and new friends I have met who are kind enough to take time out of their lives to read my ramblings and share these recipes with me.

Hang in there, have faith in me, and please continue reading. This is such a minor thing, and bigger and better things are just days (and a few more sleepless nights) away!

    You take your time honey! (oy, my southern roots are showing with that one) Putting together a new site and transferring all the old to the new can’t be easy! I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of work involved and a big thanks to your hubby for his hard work too.

    One question though when you get a chance..will we be able to subscribe to comments again at some point? I’ve always enjoyed that feature and was curious about it.

    Get some rest and take a few minutes to breathe…we’ll all still be here! :o)

    Hey April! He says you will be able to subscribe again soon!! I loved that feature as well but I didn’t know anyone else did it but me! lol
    It is an awful lot of fun reading all of the new comments! I have an email address they went to on my phone and before I even got out of bed each morning, I would read every comment left while I was asleep! y’all have no idea what a Southern Plate addict I really am!!!

    As we get the bells and whistles working, if y’all think of anything else just give me a holler! We might overlook something unintentionally!

    OOhhhhhhhh I cant wait for that feature… im addicted as many others are. The site is fine with me… I just adore you and your southern warmth and love of food. Kudo’s to your DH for doing this work for us/you.

    Thanks so much for all of the hard work you do for us. How you ever find the time I will never know. I am a retired teacher and grandmother. I can hardly wait for my babies to come visit so we can BAKE. We made your Mexican Wedding Cookies last weekend. We enjoyed ourselves and even made some to give away. Thanks again for the memories you are helphing to create. The girls loved looking at your tutorials and then running to the kitchen to complete each step. Happy Holidays.

    The new design is great; much easier to navigate and faster. Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and family stories. Alabama often gets bad press but you are definitely a positive!!

    This comment is unrelated to this particular post, I am just so excited! We just tried making hoe cake using bacon grease instead of oil in the pan, and it is sooooooo good! Have you tried that? I absolutely love this hoe cake recipe, we make it frequently, and I have you to thank for it! ~hugs!~

    I have been out of town for a while but we should be headed back next week! I was able to get online and saw your new look! WOW! IT LOOKS AWESOME! It is so easy to navigate through! You work really hard on your site and it is so great! I hope that you and your family are doing well and I hope that you have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

    I wondered what was going on. I subscribe to your feed and I noticed you haven’t had any posts lately.

    Is there a way to subscribe to the new website? I get confused on how all that stuff works.

    Take your time. I would visit your site every day no matter what it looked like.

    I just love y’all to bits and pieces! you are the most wonderful people!

    We are adding a little more to the site tonight and rss feed subscriptions will be going again tonight. You can still subscribe by email and receive posts in your inbox as well as my end of the week email with printer friendly versions of that week’s recipes.

    I’m also gonna get it fixed soon so you can subscribe to post comments and such, too. We have a list of things to get done and probably won’t have absolutely everything done until the end of the week but the site will still keep on plugging along in the meantime and y’all probably won’t even notice we are adding things!

    I’m SO RELIEVED this new design is working so well for you all! Stephanie, I haven’t tried it with bacon grease, I don’t think, but I am sure it is divine! I’m going to have to get you to do a guest blogger spot just showing folks how you make my hoe cake!! LOL
    (but then i want to eat some, too!)

    We’re not going to do a whole lot to the site tonight because we are so darn sleepy from doing all of this! LOL
    As a matter of fact, I think I may just go to bed when the kids to! oooh that sounds like fun!! Strange how my idea of fun has evolved over the years…
