My Dad taught me how to make a good cup of coffee. If I remember right it was a heaping teaspoon for each cup and 1 for the pot. Coffee was made in a Pyrex percolator. Never, never, let it come to a boil! When you hear the first perk, turn the fire down to where it makes a steady perk. The sound and the smell was heavenly, guaranteed to get the laziest lay a bed up and going. There was a length of time for the coffee to perk also. Can’t remember what that was – too long and it could be bitter, not long enough and it would be weak.
The first time I served my Dad flavored coffee he said, “Now that I’ve drank the dishwater, can I have some coffee!”
Now I grind my own beans and have a good strong cup of coffee to start my day. Once in a while I have a cup of flavored decaf coffee in the evening, but nothing seems as good as that coffee made in the Pyrex percolator these many years ago.
Nothing like a hot cup of coffee after a full days work outside. I like to sit in the kitchen after I get in,and talk to my wife.
