Here is what we do, thought you might like to add to your traditions. In the morning the kids follow the green magic dust (glitter) around the house. It is like a treasure hunt. They follow the dust to the shamrocks that have a message on them like “good try” I don’t think so” or “you”ll never find it!” Till they get to the end of the hunt which is a pot of gold! (small flower pot decorated with shamrocks filled with gold chocolate coins) They love the candy of course, but love to read what sarcastic thing the Leprechaun has written.

I did this last year form your post…my sister who is in high school was pleasantly surprised as were her classmates when she pulled her lunch out!
I am definately doing this again this year for my entire family!!

I love all of these ideas! I’m a Savannahian and St Patty’s is a BIG BIG deal here; the city basically shuts down (schools and all) for the festivities. I’m always on the hunt for ways to make this holiday more fun for my kids (since a couple of them are still too young to get much enjoyment out of the noisy and overwhelming parade). I am so excited to “green” our meals on Thurs!

We don’t have any children and I’ve done things like this for my husband for years. His co-workers couldn’t wait to see what he had in his lunch bag! They’d just shake their heads and say “that Sweet Sue!” Poor guy!

Golly ya’all make me wish I had little ones again. Even my grandbabies are not very little anymore.
You mentioned apple jelly and dying it green for sandwiches. My favorite jelly is applemint jelly by Schmuckers and it is green. If your kids like mint that would be a thought. Love it on peanutbutter sandwiches myself.

I love making the “little” holiday special like this! For breakfast, we do green pancakes & green milk. For their lunch I make pb&j sandwiches as well, but after I cut the edges off…I dip the sides of the sandwich into green sprinkles. For supper, all foods are green as well…stuffed green bell peppers, green beans, etc.

St. Patrick rid Ireland of demons, snakes, dragons or in other words it became a Catholic country. He brought the Faith to Ireland! Thanks be to God….
Don’t forget St. Patrick with all this ‘green thing’ for St. Patrick’s day. Saying the rosary, a prayer in Thanksgiving along with ‘green things’ would be most appropriate, ya’ll!

I always made green pancakes for breakfast by adding green food coloring & on Valentines Day I made red. Make green mashed potatoes to go with supper. My kids are all grown now, but we had so much fun with the holidays!
