Give A Penny, Get A Penny
Give A Penny, Get A Penny
Most gas stations in the South have little change dishes by the register. If you’re paying for a transaction and need an extra penny or two, you simply take one from the dish. People then reciprocate this good turn by dropping a few coins in the dish from time to time, thereby creating a community bank of sorts, based on goodwill.
So in that spirit, this is Southern Plate’s “Give A Penny, Get A Penny” page.” I dearly love positive quotes and am always scouring the web for more so I thought this would be a great place to compile all of those. I’ll post mine, you post yours, and we can all “Give A Penny” when we have one and come back to “Get A Penny” when we need one.
I’ll also draw on these quotes to include at the bottom of my posts and emails that I send out to Southern Plate readers and be sure to credit the person who provided it, so include a link to your blog if you have one.
I would consider it a personal favor if you’d take the time to share a quote of motivation or positivity in the comments section below. Quote yourself, your Mama, someone famous, or our best friend “Anonymous”, it doesn’t matter, long as you drop your penny and then come back on one of those days when you feel like you might need one yourself.
Gratefully,
Christy

LIFE is like a vacuum, it sucks!!!
Only if the owner turns on the “Suck Switch”. How about, “life is like Mardi Gras, It parties. or something positive like that. You control your life. Not some “Higher Being”. You. If you require an instruction manual to learn how to function normally in society, There are a bunch of religious instruction manuals out there chock full of rules and regulations on how you supposedly can make life “Not Suck”., Other wise remember that life does not suck, the person that owns the life makes his own life suck. My life is pretty cool and I don’t need an instruction manual to keep it “Not Sucking”. P.S. As Donald Sutherland said in Kelly’s Heroes “Always with the negative Vibe’s”. Also, try to go with the song, “Don’t worry, be happy”. it work’s for me.

Hi-
Please don’t think I’m crazy…but…I was just sitting here thinking about my grandmother (we called her gram), who was an awesome southern cook. She used to make the most incredible butter potatoes, but no one in the family had the recipe. I can’t tell you how many times in the last (can’t believe it’s been almost 30 years) few years I have thought about those potatoes-they were such a part of my childhood.
Anyway, I kid you not, I’m sitting here and I swear I heard my grandmother say look up southern stewed potatoes!! I just did, and found your recipe. It looks exactly like those she prepared!! I’m still in shock-I’m typing like crazy, and getting ready to call my cousin.
Thank you so very, very much!!
Anyway
Sandra, believe me, your comment makes more sense to me than you could ever know.
Hugs to you and your sweet grandmother, who is clearly still with you!
Thank YOU so very very much!
Gratefully,
Christy

Sometimes we get inspiration from unexpected places. Both of the quotes below are from songs that I had heard for years but never really listened to the words. I think sometimes we just need to slow down and listen to ‘hear’ answers and messages of hope that come from all around us.
