Give A Penny, Get A Penny

Give A Penny, Get A Penny

Most gas stations in the South have little change dishes by the register. If you’re paying for a transaction and need an extra penny or two, you simply take one from the dish. People then reciprocate this good turn by dropping a few coins in the dish from time to time, thereby creating a community bank of sorts, based on goodwill.

So in that spirit, this is Southern Plate’s “Give A Penny, Get A Penny” page.” I dearly love positive quotes and am always scouring the web for more so I thought this would be a great place to compile all of those. I’ll post mine, you post yours, and we can all “Give A Penny” when we have one and come back to “Get A Penny” when we need one.

I’ll also draw on these quotes to include at the bottom of my posts and emails that I send out to Southern Plate readers and be sure to credit the person who provided it, so include a link to your blog if you have one.

I would consider it a personal favor if you’d take the time to share a quote of motivation or positivity in the comments section below. Quote yourself, your Mama, someone famous, or our best friend “Anonymous”, it doesn’t matter, long as you drop your penny and then come back on one of those days when you feel like you might need one yourself.

Gratefully,
Christy

Another one that my Granny gave me when I was pregnant with my one and only child. “Baby, be sure you raise him so that everyone can and will love him, not just you.”

I try to keep that in mind when I want nothing more than to buy him the moon and the stars, I wonder, after I give this to him, will everyone else be able to love him or will he be too spoiled rotten??

NEVER EXPLAIN – YOUR FRIENDS DON’T NEED IT AND YOUR ENEMIES WON’T BELIEVE YOU ANYWAY.

I remember seeing this one on the final tv show “Thirty Something” as a quote left up on the screen at the very end: “Life if full of possibilities, not probabilities”.

As a teenager I had a poster with a sea gull flying and the quote ” I can because I think I can” and that has carried with me.

A great aunt that had been through alot, even poisoning by her stepdaugter but had a gentle spirit and always looked up in life. She knew I was having a rough time adjusting to a new school and told me to always remember ” You have to be a friend to have a friend”.

An 8th grade teacher in class told us “If you never have the first drink you never will be an alcoholic” well I may not have followed those words but they were strong enough to stick with me to this day.

The last I can think to share that I received from my Mom the last few weeks before she died was for me to remember “that in life you just need to try to be happy.” If we all just lived by that life could be so much simpler than trying to live up to other people’s goal or ideas. Happiness is a choice.

    One useful thought:

When my children would say they were “bored”, I would tell them:

” Intelligent people are never bored.”

This gave them something to ponder (such as, “I bet she will find something
useful for me to do.”… Maybe some chore or work to be done.

thanks for all the wonderful quotes……
