Southern Plate Celebrates 1 Year With A Block Party!
July marks the one year anniversary of SouthernPlate.com and I want to thank you so much for all that you have given me! Southern Plate began as a hobby when I had a little free blog and decided to post some recipes, which then made the front page of the host site. I told my husband one day, “I bet if I got my own domain I could get five hundred readers!”.
During our First Year SouthernPlate.com received:
Over 18 Million Page views

Hello Christy, I never never never comment on blogs, but I love your website so much, I wanted to wish you a happy anniversary! I first heard about your site on my friend’s blog, DomesticCents. I am a true southern girl, from coastal Mississippi, but now live WAY up north, so for me, reading your recipes and stories makes me feel closer to home and to mama and granny! Best wishes for continued success!

I found SP one day not sure how long ago. I am hooked on it. Christy you have such a way of making cooking so simple yet still southern.
Happy Anniversary and is there a house near you for sale I would love to be a neighbor. You know taste tester like the kids.
God has great things in store for you.
Congratulations on the year anniversary of Southern Plate. I know how hard you have worked to make it a success. I have made so many of your recipes I don’t know where to begin. I guess my favorite would have to be the chilli skillet bake. Miss you in the neighborhood….and the delicious samples you would run by the house. We’ll have to catch up at Starbuck’s soon. See you at Brady’s party. ☺ Laura
I am so glad I found this site.I am hooked! I love your recipes, your sense of humor, and your down to earthness You can tell you love to do this. Happy Anniversary and keep up the good work.
Christy, I made a pot of chicken stew for supper tonight and it is almost gone already! I have tried quite a few of the other recipes too and can’t think of one I tried that wasn’t a hit and made again. The stories you tell about family bring to mind stories of my own family that I had not recalled in a while and probably wouldn’t have without prompting. Congratulations – I thank you for sharing! Kathy
Since I found your site and signed up for your newsletter I look forward each day to seeing what you have put up next! Your style of cooking is what I grew up on in Prattville Alabama. I too love your humor and the stories you tell. I am now living in yankee land, Indiana and have been cooking and giving your recipe’s to friends here as well as giving them your web site. They love it!!!
Keep it up and may the next year be as gratifying for you as the first one has. Can’t waittttt to see what this next year is gonna bring us..
Congratulations girl, Im just so happy for you and all of your accomplishments in just 1 year. I have been a faithful follower for at least 9 of those 12 months… Your recipes are truly heartfelt, and come from a long line of great southern cooks. Being from Athens, myself, I too know many of them, but you throw in a few that I either forgot about or have never tried….. Thanks to you, you are bringing back my roots!… Hats off to you Christy, Keep up the great work.
I just want to say that I don’t have a favorite recipe, but everyone I’ve tried has been delicious. I’ve even served a couple to my mother-in-law and she has been impressed – that’s a pretty big accomplishment. Seriously, I love this site and want to wish you a happy anniversary!
Christy,
So many of your recipes are exactly the way I have cooked for years, but thanks to your efforts, I now bonafide recipes that can be shared!!! (Of course I will give you credit!)
I am so glad I found your site about 6 months ago. I have 2 sisters and they love your site too, because you are “like us” ~smiles and winks~.
“Another sister” in Tennessee,
Deborah
You and yours must be very proud!
Congrats to you!
I truly do not know how you can be a full time mom and cook, move, clean, write a cook book and blog-you are amazing!
My fav recipe would have to be your chicken and dumplings!!!! Love it, the kids request it and I love carbs-very very bad habit cause I can’t stop myself when I eat those dumplings!
Golly…..congratulations on such a successful year. What a blessing it is to read your post all the time…and I look forward to many more years of joyful reading!!!
Congrats on your ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! I truly love SOUTHERN PLATE and all of your hard work and dedication. I live in Alabama and love to give my support to a Southern gal. The day that I ran across your website I forwarded it to all of my friends. I have a friend that called me the other day and was like I am not close to my computer so can you give me the recipe for the cheesy chicken corn casserole that you make. I was tickled to death to know that she loved the casserole so much that she wanted to make it herself. Keep up the hard work……we all truly appreciate it!
Thanks and Congratulations on your Anniversary! Anytime I am at a luncheon or meeting with friends and recipes are discussed (often), I always tell them to check your wonderful website…….especially for new or inexperienced cooks who would benefit from your explicit lists and pictures! Keep up the good work! I feel like a one-man public relations firm!
I hope I didn’t miss the block party. We had them when I lived in south Louisiana and the kids were kids. What fun to bring a covered dish and close the street for some good neighborhood fun. We were truly making memories.
Donna
Thank you all so much for the comments, kindness, and links!!! We went out of town for the fourth but I had such a wonderful weekend reading all of these! I hope to be able to respond to as many as possible over the next few days!

I am so thankful that I found Southern Plate. Not only have I found amazing new recipes but amazing new friends which is what life’s all about. Happy Anniversary Southern Plate and Christy.
Happy Anniversary!
Hi Christy.
I so enjoyed reading the article about you in the July 15, ’09 Madison Spirit section of The Huntsville Times! Had no idea of your location but I have been enjoying Southern Plate for several months! But…..I ran out first thing this morning to find, Quilter’s Combo to buy your book, was not located at the address listed in the article? Is it hidden, did I overlook it? I was really looking forward to getting my hands on it! I am a collector with over 2000 cookbooks and feel I must have yours, it’s my kind of cookin’! Native of this area and understand what you are talkin’ ’bout! Please let me know if I overlooked the location? I will run out again ASAP when I hear where it is. Congratulations on your success!
Sue
Hey Sue! Thank you so much! It is a little hidden. The shopping center it is in is L shaped, with a gas station on the front left corner if you are facing the shopping center. You have to go to the left of the gas station, down the little hill, and Quilter’s Combo is located on that back side. You’ll see a sign as you go down the hill on your right, it’s up on the building. I am so sorry you had problems and thrilled to hear you have been reading SP already!
OK Christy, I understand now! Hope they still have some cookbooks tomorrow, I’m going first thing! I am aware that shopping complex is a bit difficult and forgot about looking to the laft of the gas station. I sure gave it a good going through today, round and round! Should have stopped and inquired at one of the shops there. Knew I could order it but want it NOW!!!!
Many thanks, Sue
I hope you all know how very much these comments mean to me. I’ve printed them all out and placed them on my desk. I’ve been reading them every day and hope to have time to thank you all personally!
until then, Please accept this blanket thanks. My heart is overflowing and my mind is reeling with more things that I can do to repay you all for everything that you have given me. I never dreamed I’d be this happy or that so many people would be this good to me!
Gratefully,
Christy
Christy,
I just found tipnut and then you. Wow! I’m always hunting recipes. Making supper now, but I’ll be back later to read some more. I’ll also make sure to blog about your site.
Hey Christy! Big congrats on your first year. Girl, you have really done well with your blog. Wish we could talk more often, I think I need some tips from you.
