I start my Christmas shopping around February and am done by the end of September. I have had everything wrapped and under the tree for more than a week. In fact this year I already have one gift put away for next Christmas. When I see something that I know somebody on my list would want, and if the price is within my range I grab it. I just have to remember where I store the items. lol

A few years ago i started a NEW tradition at my house at Christmas,i have NEVER been a believer in giving a child EVERYTHING they want especially at Christmas!I know of six year olds that the only thing left to buy them is a CAR!!!!!Anyway back to my new tradition,my kids are grown now with kids of their own and everyone stayed SOOOOOO stressed out at WHAT AM I GOING TO GET FOR THIS ONE AND THAT ONE...so on and so on.This is not what Christmas is supposed to be about. We draw names now and we are only allowed to spend 20$ or less or it can be homemade we also do a gag gift to fit that person or something that happened to them this year for example..my son in law just recieved news that he has high cholesterol, not funny but his gag gift will be a box of oatmeal!! we TRULY have so much more fun at Christmas now! and it doesnt hurt the kids to see that a gift doesnt have to come from the mall.I asked all my grown kids what they recieved for Christmas last year and the ONLY gift they could remember is their gag gift.If more people would STOP the insanity and teach their children the TRUE meaning of Christmas and it aint about santa clause that its our Lord Jesus Christs and Saviours birthday!A big P.S.we have so much fun doing the gag gift thats all we are doing this year!!!OFF NOW TO HAVE A STRESS FREE CHRISTMAS,CARE TO JOIN ME!!

I have tried this year to add a little more jolly to the lives of lots of people. Knowing that this year especially, people have less to spend, I have started a website that finds all kinds of homemade gift ideas. There are lots of ideas for using recycled items, dollar store items, and making your own gift wraps from what you have on hand. I really hope that those who need it will find this site and find on it gifts to make for their friends and family. Thanks for all the ideas you share, Christy!

First and foremost Jesus's birth is the reason for the season! We all need to say a special prayer of thanks for our families and health and to live in freedom as we have and continue to do. Regardless of pay cuts, no raises and cut benefits my husband and I have kept our jobs through this rough economic time we have all experienced and for that I am so grateful!!! We are happy!!! Thanks for all the great recipes you have sent to us Christy and for all the memory sharing and encouraging words of faith and inspiration you do. It means so much and you touch so many lives you don't even know!!! Keep it coming and God bless all of you through this holiday and in the coming year!

Love to all in this Grand Holiday Season!!!

Ou families have grown in leaps and bounds also. Now instead of swapping gifts, we do "Dirty Santa" and everyone enjoys it so much. If anyone wants details on how to do this..feel free to email me. Also I read just this week about a great idea for a Children's Gift Swap. Each child brings a wrapped book. Then they all sit in a circle and each child holds the gift they brought in their hands. Everyone sings Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer...and everytime you say "reindeer" the children pass the gifts to the right. At the end of the song, they unwrap whatever book they end up with. I absolutely love this idea and am pretty sure I am gonna do it at my Open House this year. I am gonna provide all of the books tho. At my Open House, I ask that people just come over...no food or gifts are allowed to be brought. I go to Sams and Walmart and get ready made goodies (appetizers) and its a no stress family and friends night. Several in the family have said it was their favorite Christmas gathering. It is just about visiting and enjoying each others company...not the gifts and not more holiday food.

Regarding kids and long Christmas lists....We always let our kids "wish" for as many things as they wanted for Christmas. Face it...advertising is aimed at them right now. Both of my kids had huge lists which they sometimes started as early as Labor Day. But, we also told them...put as much as you want on there...then decide on the 3 things you want most and put a star by them. My kids loved doing this. It seemed to make their Christmas lists more fun and those top 3 kept changing. My son even came up with a very sophisticated (for a 5 yr old) ranking system for his list. I still have some of those lists and we all love reminiscing about them and laughing at how hard Robert worked on his list. All that said..I don't remember if they ever got all 3 top wants on their list. I don't remember them ever being disappointed in what Santa brought. I just remember all of the fun and great memories. Both of my kids swear they will use this same system with their kids...so I guess that kinda speaks for itself as far as it being a success!

Thanks for these reminders, Christy. As I was sitting here wondering how I could get all of the decorations done, cookies made and plan a large meal it hit me that I am the only one putting this kind of pressure on myself. I may or may not put up a tree this year. We are not having any big parties and my husband does not care if we do it or not. I probably will because I love the lights but at least it will be a decision and not an obligation. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to participate in the office 'dirty Santa' party which means having to get out and buy something, wrap it and remember to take it and a finger food in to the office. Maybe I'll skip this year and just have a nice relaxing hour to myself where I can get some work done without stressing or staying late.

Thanks so much for posting this! My stress level shot up over the weekend, and reading this has helped. I was looking at all I needed to get done, and I got overwhelmed. I just keep reminding myself that I can only do so much in a day, and can only do one thing at a time.
