Homemade CinnaBuns

Is the dad in your life a fan of those mall cinnamon buns? This homemade version is sure to knock his socks off, and my shortcut makes them easy for everyone. Don’t forget to put a pinch of cinnamon in the cream cheese icing for that little extra oomph of flavor!

Slow cooker pork roast and veggies

This is my husband’s all time favorite meal and so very easy to prepare!

My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard.

Mother would come out and say, “You’re tearing up the grass”

“We’re not raising grass” Dad would reply, “We’re raising boys”

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Gratefully,

Christy

Your meal suggestions look great. my dad passed away at the age of 88 and I still miss him. I will think of him Sunday as I do each day. My dad was a wonderful man who taught me so much. I have never once had to be sorry to say who my dad was and how I wish I could cook for him once more.

I wish I could spend this special day with my Daddy. He lives in GA and I’m stuck here in MD. (I did visit him last month though).

Thanks for the great recipes! I will wake up my hubby and son with the homemade CinniBuns! Yum! Thanks Christy!

Tell your hubby Happy Father’s day from all of your faithful SP followers.

    • I can relate, Carol, my Dad lives in FL and I, too, live just south of the Mason Dixon Line in MD. Christy, my husband has been on the South Beach Diet and has lost over 40lbs thus far, so I don’t think he’d go for those delicious looking buns…sigh. They sound so yummy. :-)

  3. I don’t know what I’ll make dad for Fathers Day. Made a roast last night to eat for today at lunch. Left about 10:30 to go mow a yard before it got hot outside. I forgot about the roast and cooked him a couple of Corn Dogs. Felt real dang dumb when I got home and looked in the fridge.

So if thats any indication of how my memory is.. Dad may not get much for Fathers Day lol.

It happens to the best of us Bill. I’d be pretty dern excited about corn dogs! In fact, I’m hungry now…I wonder where I could get me a corn dog for lunch….hmmmm…

My Dad died 36 yrs ago and my father-in-law 23 yrs ago so it will also be a day of sweet, sweet memories! Hug your Daddy’s tight y’all and enjoy every minute!!

    Bountiful Blessings!

I wish I could cook dinner for my dad! He lives several thousand miles away though. I sent him a Father’s Day card though and will call him. I actually got confused and thought last Sunday was Father’s Day, so he’ll have 2 cards and 2 Father’s Day phone calls :D If I recall, I did the same thing last year! Oops!

In any case, the recipes look delicious. I know the cinnamon buns are and the cake looks fantastic. I sadly can’t cook a roast in a crock pot to save my life (they always come out VERY dry), but I’m happy for people who can :)

Oh and you should report back with your review of Toy Story 3! The first one came out when I was 10. It and Toy Story 2 are among my very most favorite movies- same with my fiance and my mom. We love our Pixar movies. We’re going to go see it this weekend with the agreement that we’ll pretend it never existed if we don’t like it!

    • Annarose, my roasts were the same way! But once I started cooking them like Christy does, with a can of cream of mushroom soup or beef gravy, they come out PERFECT! I really think you might have some good results if you try it out. My family loves it this way. I have a big ol’ roast in the crock pot right now and I threw a can of beef gravy in there.

      • Annarose

Amanda, thanks for the encouragement! I have a pot roast in the freezer. I’ll thaw it out next week and give it a try… I can’t remember if I’ve ever tried one in the crock pot with the cream soup, I know last time I used broth. When I cook a pot roast in the oven I use cream of mushroom soup combined with onion soup mix and water. It turns out pretty well that way.

  10. I was not able to see my dad yesterday but we did talk on the phone. (He’s a truck driver and was in New Orleans heading to Houston).

In his honor, I drank an RC Cola in a glass bottle and dropped a few peanuts down the spout. I remember that was my favorite treat when he drove me around in his blue Ford pick-up.

Thank you so much for the simply easy pound cake recipe. I had all the ingredients in my pantry without having to go to the store. I had my dad over for a Father’s Day cook-out and served this cake like you had suggested with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Everyone loved it, especially my son who is not very fond of cakes, but he loved this one so much that he went back for a second piece which never happens. He ate the cake plain though because he doesn’t like strawberries and thought it was perfect. Thanks again!

I just discovered this website on Saturday by accident and I love it! I’ve marked it as one of my favorites. Your recipes remind me of my mother who is a great Southern cook.

All the food looks so good..my father has been gone since I was young, but I do remember a sandwich I made for him once. It was bologna and I was so proud, putting everything on it just so. I took it outside where Daddy was sitting and I recall his smile as I handed it to him. Imagine my horror as he took a bite and this red string came with it… I had forgotten to take the rind off the sides of the meat ( that’s how it came then) He laughed but I was so upset, as only a seven year old can be. After that I never failed to take the string off. Daddy was a wonderful man and though he has been gone over 50 years he lives on through those of us who were blessed enough to have known him.

We are going to have quite the weekend around here.
FRIDAY: Go to my brother’s with my parents and kids for a cook-out because bro will be out of state on Sunday.
SATURDAY: Youngest turns 9 so have birthday things to do.
SUNDAY: Take dad to dinner or have steaks at the house… he doesn’t know there is an option but working that out still with mom.
So as you can see, lots going on this weekend.

happiness keeps you sweet, trials keep you strong, sorrows keep you human, failures keep you humble. Success keeps you growing, but only family keeps you going.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there, those still with us and those who live in our hearts. Hope everyone has a safe and blessed weekend.

  16. Michelle Thompson

the weekend will be quiet, hubby is still deployed so me and the kids are saving all the holidays til he comes home! LOL

  17. Christy I am so curious as to what you are cooking for Father’s Day breakfast and dinner. If it’s not a surprise could you post it so I could get some of the ideas from you?

  18. EMMA

My Father died in 1999. He was a wonderful Father. Always gave you great advise. He was a good Christian man, worked in the church. He worked every day for his 6 children and his wife. My Mother and children always can first to him. So if he were still alive all of his children and most of the grandchildren wouls be celebrating and spending the day with him.
HAve a wonderful Father’s Day in Heaven.
    Your loving daughter Jean.
