Cinnamon Tortilla Chips
Y’all made me make these. Every time I’ve mentioned something about making TexMex someone would talk about these and ask if I’d made them before and every time someone mentioned it I’d think “Wow, that DOES sound good!”.
So I finally got around to making them and now I see what all the fuss is about. These are DELICIOUS. I love how crispy and cinnamony they are. The kids had cow fits over them, and I ended up having to make two more batches! Some folks have told me that they serve them with honey, some with a fruit salsa of sorts, and many just eat them as is, which is what we have started doing. Either way you go, you can’t go wrong!
So tonight is going to be Taco night at our house. One of everyone’s favorite meals and easy-peasy to make. I think most families love suppers made with ground beef. Speaking of which, I just came across a ground beef ecookbook I made up about a year or so ago. It contains some of my favorite go-to ground beef meals. I sent it out to my email subscribers sometime last year but we’ve had so many new folks join us (have I mentioned how glad I am that you’re here?) that I figured it was time I sent it out again. This book is printer friendly, filled with ground beef recipes, and of course it’s free! If you aren’t already a subscriber, click here to do that now so you’ll get this book when I email it out. I’ll send it out Saturday to give everyone time to sign up who wants it. I don’t know about you, but I can never have enough ground beef recipes!
Ooh, lets make some of these to go with our tacos now, okay? Sit down and get comfy, I’ll have them ready in a jif!
You’ll need: Flour tortillas, sugar, butter, and cinnamon
Of course you can use margarine if you want. This is something I’ve always received a lot of questions and emails bout, because I tend to go towards margarine and until recently you never saw real butter on Southern Plate at all. I am often asked why this is and folks expect it to be a dietary reason or personal preference. The answer to this one, like most things in life, is a lot simpler than you’d think. Margarine is a LOT cheaper than butter. Plain and simple. We all have grocery budgets and we all do what we can to stay within them. I do a lot of baking for others and margarine saves me a lot of money over the long haul. Of course, you do whatever cranks yer tractor and you know I’ll back you up on it. I think what happens in your kitchen is your business and anyone who gives you slack about it shouldn’t be eating in your kitchen
. When you are doing the best you can to feed your family on a budget, don’t ever feel guilty.
Place your sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
Stir that up a bit
Melt your butter or margarine and brush one side of a tortilla with it.
Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over.
Repeat with other side.
I used a pizza cutter to just slice it into wedges.
Place this in the oven at 350, for five to ten minutes, or until lightly browned, on each side.
Chips will crisp up as they cool.
A perfect snack on their own but a grand addition to your Taco night!

I’m going to have to try those.
One of my guilty pleasures at Taco Bell is the cinnamon twist thingys they sell. I love them.
btw…. made your chicken plank recipe last night. You have another winning recipe there, girl! *giving you a thumbsup*
Oooh Karen! I LOVE Those things, too! Every now and then I talk my husband into going and getting me those as an evening snack after we put the kids in bed. Thats why I love these so much so I bet you will too!!!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you tried the chicken planks, we just love those!
Gratefully,
Christy

Hey Melissa!!!

I think we’re gonna have to eat supper early tonight!
Gratefully,
Christy
I have tortillas for another meal but now I think I will have to make these. I have had this before and they are so good.
I just love finding a use for something you already have on hand, don’t you? I just about always have tortillas because I make sandwiches with them a lot and I also LOVE shredded beef “roll ups” as we call them.
I love how simple this recipe is, too!
Gratefully,
Christy
looks oh so yummy and I LOVE that you have it in Longaberger!!
hehee! That was one of the Valentine baskets over ten years ago. My birthday is right by Valentines day so I used to buy me that basket each year as my own gift. Alas, that was before children and tight budgets, but I still have the ones from the past!
Gratefully,
Christy
Wow, looks so simple and so delicious. I will definately make these for my sons!
Thank you Debbie! I hope they like them as much as my brood does!
Gratefully,
Christy
We are having tacos tonight too (shredded pork though) and I will be adding these for dessert!
I love tacos with shredded meat! I gotta make those next week. Hope y’all enjoy this!!!!
Gratefully,
Christy
christy, my daughter does these with a fruit salsa she makes, and it’s fabulous. take an 8-oz carton of frozen sweetened strawberries, thawed, one red apple, peeled and chopped, a can of mandarin oranges, drained, and a peeled n diced kiwi fruit. throw this all in the food processor and whirl til just smooth.
That sounds sooo good! I need to try this with the cinnamon chips.
amy, she’s a new bride, and has come up with some great recipes! so very proud of my baby.
oh oh oh Mama Jane, that sounds absolutely heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for the recipe!
Gratefully,
Christy
Wonder if whole wheat/whole grain tortillas would work with this recipe also? I’m going to try making these, in any case!
D.
Diane,
I make them with wheat tortillas and smart balance spray…. my kids say they are yummish.
It’s so customizable! I think whole wheat would be wonderful. Heather’s idea is brilliant, too!
There you go again reminding me of yet another thing that I haven’t made in a while, We love these after a meal of tacos. Our favorite dip for them is chunky applesauce. Tastes just like apple pie. And of course they are wonderful all by themselves.
Christy, I have been making these for years, and thought that I was a culinary genius for coming up with the idea-I have never seen the recipe posted anywhere! This is just proof that great minds think alike!!
My family loves the tortilla chips sprayed with nonstick spray with garlic salt and baked just like the cinnamon ones. We use them as lowfat chips with guacamole and other dips. I am going to try the cinnamon ones as I love cinnamon toast. Love the new look!!
These looks great for my grandaughter and I to try for our Saturday night “girls night in”. She will love doing the brushing and sprinkling and I’ll do the oven and we will both happily eat them.
Yum, I bought some Raspberry salsa when I went shopping today, Now I know I have to make this to go with it. I have been trying two of your recipes a week. I havn’t found one I didn’t like yet. Thank you Christy, your the best!
If you cut the tortillas into strips they make a perfect “side dish” to a bowl of vanilla ice cream with caramel topping….oh and a few sprinkles, of course.
Deb,
All the ideas sound good, but yours just hit the spot. I’m definitely getting caramel sauce when I got out in a bit!!
If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, try it with their salted caramel sauce — best caramel sauce EVER! You don’t really taste the salt, it just cuts the sweetness. I eat it straight out of the jar…
i LOVE salty caramel! I used to eat sugar babies with movie popcorn back before we knew that stuff was bad for ya!
Will be trying these soon!
I wonder if Corn tortillas would change the taste drastically…. allergic to the darn flour…
My mother used to do a Mexican strawberry shortcake using these with frozen strawberries and cool whip on top instead of pound cake or angel food cake. Trick is to let it sit a bit before you eat so that some of the tortillas soften up a bit while other parts stay nice and crisp. DELISH!
Yum…wonder if this would work with pita bread! I bet it will!
This is sounding like “what’s for dessert” tonigt…. thanks for sharing!
I bet these are good! I make these a little differently. I cut the tortillias in strips, deep fry them in vegetable oil, drain and then shake them is a paper bag containing the cinnimon and sugar. They are crispy like chips but oh so good.
These are also great with this Apple Pie Dip
1 1/3 cups peeled, cored, and diced apple
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons apricot preserves
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
Combine all the dip ingredients in a bowl, then cover and refrigerate the mixture until chilled.
Ahhh Chihuahua – Cinni Crispy’s tonight. I have been making these for awhile, since we always have left over shells this was the perfect solution for using them.
Hallelujah and Praise the Lord, have we FINALLY transformed Miss Christy over to real, pure buttah??!!!!!!
Seriously I love these little cinnamon crispy thingys too – though gotta admit {blush} yes, I’m a fryer. Either way, YUM!
Oooooooh… I discovered these a couple of years ago when trying to come up with something ‘different’ for Mexican (food) Day at work. I found them along with a fruit salsa recipe online and they’ve been a favorite ever since. One tip… find yourself a shaker of some sort for the cinnamon-sugar (or should that be, for the cinnamon-sugar, sugah?) We’ve got an old plastic shaker in the shape of a bear, that I think contained cinnamon-sugar purchased at the grocery (why anyone would purchase such an easy thing to make, I don’t know, but we got ourselves a nifty shaker in the deal!) Anywho, I make BUNCHES of these chips and keep them in a zip lock bag – but never for long… they don’t last!
Keep up the excellent work Christy – LOVE this site!
Go ahead and eat your margarine – it’s butter for me. I will skimp on somethings, but not this – I understand it’s one molecule away from being plastic – sorry I don’t want to eat that! That being said, these sound really good and I’m sure my gran will love them as she loves cinnamon-surgared toast in the morning – another thing she got from MomMom!!! Am gonna try these real soon. Thanks, and we just had tacos for dinner tonite ourselves – another love of MomMom!!! She asks for them once a week.
No Wendy, the whole “margarine is a molecule away from being plastic” is an persisting urban legend/myth, whatever you would want to call it.
You couldn’t add or remove a molecule from margarine, or change a molecule, and end up with plastic.
Chemically, a plastic and margarine are nowhere near identical or similar.
Myself, I use butter in cooking, and margarine or ‘other’ spread on bread simply for ease as it spreads straight from the fridge and butter does not.
I have made these and served it with Pineapple Mango Salsa! YUM!
Can’t wait to get my recipes! I am outta ideas to cook for supper. It is just too HOT to think! =)
Our family, and friends, LOVE these! They are so good! We always serve them with fruit salsa. Mmmmm.
These definitely are fabulouse! My co-leader and I had our Girl Scout troop make these at one of out meetings to work on a “Sweet Treats” badge. They were a big hit…….the girls LOVED them! They were good just by themselves and dipped in various sweet dip treats (chocolate sauce was the favorite of the day!)
Christy,
I’ve made these for years! When we have left over tortillas, I always make these to get rid of the extras. Last year for a reunion, I made these with a fruit dip. They both went over really well. Although, my hubby likes me to deep fry them before I put the cinnamon and sugar on them. I’d rather bake them.
Thanks Christy. Think I’ll make these tonight!
I just recently found your site. I would love to know how I can get a copy of your ground beef cook book.
Hey! Do you subscribe by email? I may send it out along with another soon so I’m checking
Thank you!!
I, too, just found this site through Nancy’s Kitchen. This is my first time reading it. I would also like to receive your ground beef cook book.
Thank you very much.

BUNEULOS!!! Originally being from south Texas, you can find these tasty treats almost anywhere. The very best to be found are at HEB grocery stores!!! Can’t wait to make your recipe right here at home!
Christy, I for some reason turned my tv on a week or two ago and there you were. Now I’m not one for turning a tv on in the morning but, just a weird day (or a sign perhaps) Just wanted to let you know that I LOVE all of the recipes and your little stories that go along with them . I’ve been passing this site on to anyone that will listen to me!
Too bad we dont’ live closer to each other, I can see us hanging on the front porch sippin tea and tasting everything that we cook! LOL
Happy November!
These are great in the fall with pumpkin dip!
I’ve been making these for quite some time. When we have guests I put a scoop or two of ice cream in a pretty glass, top with a couple of these cinnamon wedges and drizzle with honey. Very impressive and easy dessert!!
I have my 3 grandkids coming over this weekend I love for them help me make something yummy. I think this is our project for Sat morning!
My family loves these. I usually fry these in a pan instead of baking and then sprinkle on the cinnamon sugar. This method seems a lot easier and less messy.
I have started making my own tortillias and I make a double recipe but I always have a few leftover that I have to trash before I get around to using them, now I know a yummy way to use them. I hate to waste anything. As always Thank you Christy.
I put these on a platter and put cut up strawberrys and coolwhip on top. Kind of messie but so worth it.
Outstanding with any fresh fruit or berries! YUM as usual!!!! Thanks for the recipes! ;D
Love easy yums, and anyone who criticizes should be required to cook for your family for a solid month and “show you how”, LOL bet not many have th enerve.
