I really enjoy your down to earth personality and the recipes I have copied from the e-mails. We don’t have a large book store in our area, but went to Virginia yesterday to Barnes and Noble and purchased your cook-book. I was going to put it on my Amazon wish list, but couldn’t wait that long. Wishing you and your family a joyous Thanksgiving!

I have been going thru cookbooks, looking at websites for my Thanksgiving recipes. Now you come up with todays post. Thank you so much. All I have to do is go to my one stop place and find the best home cooked recipes-and I have no worries that they will be a hit. Thank you so much for all you do. I enjoy so much your new book and it is definetly going to be passed out for Christmas presents. You are truly a southern girl thru and thru. Love ya.

  5. It makes me wish I had more people to cook for. Good Job on the Video!

  6. Tom

Hey Christy wonderful video makes me wish I could be there. I kinda envy you as my parents passed away years ago and your video made me sad for a moment as I missed all those wonderful traditional Rockwell gatherings where generations of families gathers if not for just a half a day to share wonderful memories together. You have such a blessed life as you cherish every second of your hectic day it’s amazing. One of the things you do that I wished I had done awhile back was document everything as those memories are very important. Always keep that camera rolling as you are all together you’ll never regret it. Wishing you and your family the best Thanksgiving ever and thanks for sharing those wonderful recipes, videos and memories with us.

Your mother’s house sounds like my in-laws’ house! There’s always so much food, the table will barely hold it! The problem with the holiday is that my parents live in the area, too, and my mother will not go to my in-laws’ even though they have been invited. I think my mother wants to be the one in charge, not a guest! Of course, my husband wants to eat at his family’s house since there’s more food, and, well, it’s his family! It always makes for a long, awkward Thanksgiving and Christmas every year! Whoever we visit second in the day gets offended no matter what!

  9. Micha

The Preston roll recipe is great. IMO, worth the price of the book. I’m making those for our Thanksgiving meal.

    • Hey Rita! Thank you so much! I self published a little cookbook shortly after starting SouthernPlate.com but it was retired when I got a book deal with Harper. I own three copies myself and am saving them for the younguns :) . If this book goes well, though, I’ll definitely do another one!

What a sweet post you did this time. It is nice to hear from someone who is grateful for all God has given her, and He has really piled it on this year. I am so happy for your family and for you. I know that your Mama is so proud of you. We live through our children sometimes and it is such a blessing to have a child who turns out as great as you have. You have paid back every bit of your raising. A blessed Thanksgiving to you and all your family! Love, Marianne

  27. Audrey

I stumbled onto your cookbook today while browsing Amazon for gift ideas. When I saw it, I immediately ordered three, one for my daughter, one for my best friend and one for ME! Then I googled you & found this website and subscribed to your email. You have a new fan in NC and will have two more as soon as I give the cookbooks as presents!

  28. Sandra Christian

These are awesome recipes. Thank you for taking the time to do all of this before taking off for your Thanksgiving holiday.

Can I just say, Granny’s Sheath Cake is hand’s down, the best what we like to call “Texas Sheet Cake” I’ve ever tried. It ranks a Hee Haw SALUTE! Yes, I watched Hee Haw with my grandparents as a child.. Junior. Grandpa. Minnie Pearl… need I say more.. but back to that cake! The only thing I left out was the cinnamon. To me, that’s a mood thing. But my gosh FINALLY I found a recipe for uhhmm, (sorry) Texas Sheet Cake that is truly moist and scrum-dilly-ump-tious! Just loved it. Had to break the last half into two pieces, put them in a couple of Lock & Lock’s to freeze them because I just kept taking a bite when I walked by. I left a fork in the pan to make that easy of course. Again, thank you Christy! This is checked as a “done!” on my “Recipes To Find” list!

  30. Jessica

These recipes are the best! Keep them coming! Do have a recipe for Cake Balls?

  31. hILDA

I have been making the buttermilk salad for many years, but I always used peach jello. I am going to try the strawberry next time, looks great. Give the peach a try also, it is really good!!!!

  32. hILDA

I would love to have the grannys sheath cake recipe please.

  33. Thanks for sharing. As a child, my best friend’s mom made butter stewed potatoes.
It was always such a treat when I was invited to dinner and the potatoes were part of the meal. I will definitely be trying these.
Also, I would like to thank you for adding the Ziplist “button” to make it easy to save and sort your recipes.
