I love eating. I know that getting together and seeing everyone and sharing a sense of community is wonderful but I just LOVE seeing what everyone brought and that silence at the table as everyone tucks in and the first bite of real Thanksgiving food. YUM! And so many things stem from there, conversations about recipes and how aunt so-and-so did it. This year we won’t be able to see family so we’re getting together with about 30 of our friends and friends of friends and it’s going to be a blast. I can’t wait to see all of the different holiday traditions come out with such a varied group of people.

very favorite activity is all the family coming home for christmas during the holidays, it is so special to us on christmas day to have breakfast with one of our daughters and lunch with one of our other daughters and their families. This way we are able to enjoy their christmas decorations and their christmas trees.

  4. I love the Holidays. Fun time with all my family and all the cooking that goes with it. I love cooking candy and cakes. It is joy to my ears to hear the comments on how much they enjoy my cooking. And for the past 3 months I have used recipes from your site. And they all love them. I fed 17 every Sunday and Thanksgiving and Christmas there will be a lot more here but on those 2 days everyone brings a dish so I get to really enjoy visiting with all of them. I will do ham ,candied sweet potatoes, apricot salad and pecan pie. Can’t wait to see all my little ones excited. These little ones are my great grandbabies and I have 7 with one on the way. Hope everyone at Southern Plate have the best Christmas and of course Thankgiving ever. Enjoy all my posts from you and how you have the pictures showing exactly how to do it. I love that crockpot and sure hope I win it. Love to you and all your sweet family. Peggy Butler

Kinda weird – but watching “A Christmas Story”. Also, making our special fruit salad. Our main course may change, depending on what everyone wants, but we ALWAYS have fruit salad.

  6. Ann Lokey

My children and I make a lot of stuff together during the holidays. But the one thing that we really enjoy making and have done it every year since my oldest was 2 (she’s 18 now!) is fudge! I still use the same recipe that my Grandmother taught me how to make when I was 10!

  7. wanda

My favorite part is the family all together.

  8. Amy Clements

I am a Nurse and it is sad to say but a lot of Christmas’ I am working. I love being at home with the family but when I do have to work we make The Holiday special as well. My favorite part about this is that everyone brings food! We pig out! Even the patients know that we are in the festive spirit. Christmas is all about building relationships and being thankful for what we have. Sometimes you just have to do this while you are at work. =)

Baking and spending time with family and friends. I have an annual cookie exchange party that is a blast. everyone comes over and we spend some time eating, laughing, and destressing. its one of my favorite get togethers!

  10. Mary

Spending time with my family including my grandson that gets to come to Grandma’s house to eat! They are 700 miles away and it takes them almost 12 hours to get here!
We love to hang out and have conversations! (He is 2).

  12. linda

my siblings and i take turns hosting the Christmas Eve dinner and gift exchange. no one has to bring anything except an inexpensive gift for the gift exchange, which is always fun. you never know which gift you’ll be taking home. the adults don’t buy for each other, just for the kids.

  13. Judy Ellzey

I enjoy spending time with our children and their children. Our children live out of state and, therefore, the time we spend together is very special.

  14. Lynn Seegers

We always make Xmas cookies the week before Xmas. No matter were we lived even in our first small apartment we made them. There was barely room for a small table to tree but we made cookies. Now we make for the seniors in our building in warms my heart to see their faces.

  15. Rose Mary Mogan

Our Christmas tradition is to make cookies and decorate them with kids that are less fortunate. I supply all of the ingredients, and they get to help bake and take them home to share with the rest of their family. Last year we even did a ginger bread house together. They loved it, and the quality time that we shared together.

  16. Having dinner with my little family .. <3

  17. Alanna

I love cooking/eating with my family. We are a very small family and enjoy eating a meal together, watching movies & then eating more & more…..

  18. Martha in MS

I love baking and giving my goodies away during the holidays. I would love that new crock pot as always making something for church get together s and worry about spilling the contents before arriving.

  19. Every year, my husband and I take a Saturday night, grab some hot chocolate, and drive all around looking at Christmas lights while listening to Christmas music. We LOVE doing that!! I also love baking goodies, and delivering those to family and friends :) Thanks!!

  20. Sherrie Dale

My favorite of course is eating all the delicious food put before me. But I would like to add growing up like every other Southern girl was to watch and/or help Mama in the kitchen while Daddy was sitting in the living room watching the football games. See I think of these days and cherish those holiday memories because they are both gone to heaven. When I pull out the recipes to make like my Mama would on this special holiday of Thanks it warms my heart to know that something this simple brought everyone together on this Holiday full of love and joy!!

  21. CATHY

I have lots of favorites, but I suppose my very favorite is Christmas breakfast @ my 87 year old Mom’s. All the siblings and families pitch in and help, but there is nothing like going home for Christmas!

I can’t remember if I’ve already commented or not, and I can’t go back through the 1200+ comments to check! So I’ll answer (possibly again). My favorite part of the holidays is visiting with family. Our extended family (cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, all the way up to my great-grandmother) gets together every Thanksgiving. As our family gets larger and larger, I realize how rare and special it is that we stay so close.

  27. texannie

My favorite thing to do is cooking and attending Christmas eve services at my church.

  28. Lila

My favorite is hosting Christmas parties! I just love the spirit of Christmas and just having people over to celebrate is the highlight of the season for me =)

  29. nmsusieq

My favorite activity is and always has been, looking at Christmas lights. Another thing I’m really partial to is opening one gift on Christmas Eve.

  30. Lela

My favorite is cooking holiday treets some that I cook only at this time of the year.

  31. Carla

I just recently asked Christy what crockpot she uses, so maybe this giveaway was meant for me…HA! I love the good hearted feelings that Christmas seems to bring out in most people.

  32. Trisha McDonald

Decorating the tree! we make various snacks and treats like sausage balls and listen to Chistmas music which is great because my husband is an law enforcement officer and most of the holidays he cannot be there with us

  33. Leslie Hansen

It’s a tie between Christmas Day with the family (love it when all 20 of us can make it!) and my book club’s annual holiday get together.

  34. Pam

I love when the entire extended family gets together the Sat. night before Christmas and break the “pink pig”.

  35. Angie

My favorite holiday activity(ies) would be decorating the Christmas tree and making candy & cookies for my family. =)

  36. Linda Rice

I really enjoy taking a walk with my sister-in-law of 36 years after eating a huge meal I fixed all by myself. We get a chance to share a sisterly conversation away from the grandkids while the guys are watching football and the kids are playing. This is our first Christmas without our parents, so we will be doing a lot of reminiscing.

  37. Deborah Mc

Christmas Morning! We have a traditional Southern Breakfast of Bisquits, molasses, jellies, gravy, country ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, grits. We never open any presents until breakfast is finished! ahhhhhhhh

  38. Lea Ann

My favorite holiday activiity is spending Christmas Eve with my folks. My sister & I with our children spend the night with Nana & Paw Paw. That way we always wake up together on Christmas morning.
Christmas Eve as Sarah & AThomas are going to bed Nana reads The Polar Express to them although they are now able to read it on their own! (This year they will be 24 & 18)
