This sounds like a great recipe. I’m going to cook it tomorrow. I too love my slow cooker, wouldn’t trade it for anything. Well, maybe a personal cook to move into my house, but that would be it! As always Christy, another great post from you. Keep it up!

I GUESS I NEED TO USE MY SLOW COOKER MORE OFTEN. THIS LOOKS LIKE A GREAT RECIPE; EASY AND NPT MUCH CLEAN UP…..THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR RECIPES!!!

Nothing simpler than this! Christy, I have a question for you…my slow cooker is a larger-than normal, oval shaped one. I think it’s a 6 qt. size, and most recipes call for a 3.5 to 4.5 qt. one. Should I just buy a smaller one, or can the recipes be adjusted for the larger Crockpot?

  4. Elaine

I know what will be in my slow cooker tomorrow! I am going to use breasts though. Not a big fan of thighs. Thanks for the new recipe.

Christy, I was researching your slow cooker. I really want a programmable one. One big issue people say is that this one will shut off randomly for no reason. Do you have that issue? I’m kind of lost about which slow cooker to buy!

    Thanks for the recipe!

    • Hey Sharidan!
I use a programmable one and have never had a problem with it, this is the link to the same model I have http://snipurl.com/108ok . All of my slow cookers are made by Hamilton Beach and in my personal opinion, they’re the best!
I have four or five Hamilton Beach ones, lol! This is my absolute favorite though :) I love the rubber seal and the clamp down lid. My mother now has one just like it and my sister asked for one for her birthday so Mama bought her the same model too!
      Gratefully,
      Christy

Like Elaine I’m not a fan of thighs but I will be making this with chicken breasts. Bet it would be good with pork too. I love my slow cooker – no heated kitchen like with oven AND I don’t need to babysit all the time

The only thing needed here is a box of Slow Cooker Liners and you won’t even have to wash the cooker after dinner.

    • Those are great, but I’ve got one even better! A husband who washes my slow cooker for me every night :) I wake up and it’s magically cleaned and waiting on the counter!
      He’s a keeper!

  8. Lori

I think I’ll try this tommorrow. I’ll have to substitute tenders, regular potatoes, and sliced whole carrots, but I’m sure it will still be delicious! Thanks!

I s’pose I have to agree that I should buy a new cooker since mine is about 17yrs old. Just saw that on Amazon they’re having a “Crocktober event’ where you can save an extra $5 on a “Crockpot” brand cooker. For those interested, here’s the linky http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_357694422_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000731491&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=auto-sparkle&pf_rd_r=0MAG0M064Q0W7DKQ0CDW&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_p=1322168082&pf_rd_i=slow%20cooker.

    • I don’t own a single Rival brand (they make and own the trademark to “Crock Pot”) but my mama had one growing up. Thanks for posting the link!
You can also buy the latest Hamilton Beach slow cookers at Wal Mart and if y’all have a Big Lots, they always have a pretty good selection as well.

As we speak, I smell the delicious aroma of a boston butt that has been cooking in a cup of vinegar all day……..can’t wait!!! And tomorrow will be pinto beans in that same place…………go, crocks!!!!

  11. Lisa

Hmm..I want to love my slow cooker, but the majority of the dishes I try with meat come out dry and mealy. Especially the ones that say cook 6 to 8 hours. I even went and bought a new slow cooker and have the same problem. I never let boneless chicken breasts cook for more than 2 1/2 to 3 hours- but then that can defeat the purpose of the busy mom’s best friend at times. I have the best luck with bone-in meats or fatty meats like a beef chuck or pork butt. Every week I try a new recipe with my slow cooker, hoping for a new great recipe and my kids pretty much groan when they see it on the counter.

    • Lisa, I’ve never had a meat come out dry in the slow cooker so lets compare notes if you can! What are you putting in for liquid? Have you tried any of my slow cooker recipes from SouthernPlate.com?
I’m going to be traveling to Charleston over the next few days so if you respond and don’t hear back for a bit that’s why.
      Gratefully,
      Christy

    • Carla

I have the same problem. My son groans too, but what a great help the crockpot could be, if the meat would turn out.

  12. Sounds like a winner, Christy!

  13. Carla

Love my crock pot! Thanks for the great recipe, similar to the Thai Chicken recipe simmering away right now in my crock-pot; the working mama’s friend.

  14. looks so good I will have to try is soon. I bet it would also me great to use beef.

  15. Pam

I love the tip of pulling out the insert and loading it the night before. That’s brilliant!

About the only thing I like better than my Slow Cooker is the FABULOUS “SLOW COOKER LINERS” made by REYNOLDS

    http://www.reynoldspkg.com/reynoldskitchens/en/product.asp?prod_id=3200

These wonderful products make it even easier to use a slow cooker. NO SCRUBBING afterwards…just toss the bag in the trash!!!!

Christy, I cooked this recipe yesterday using leg quarters that I separated the leg and the thigh ! It was excellent! My husband and I just loved it! Thank you so much for sharing! It is a real keeper !

  19. Cheran

I love your recipes. Do you use the 6 quart Crockpot for all your recipes? Mine seem to be overcooked. I am thinking of getting a 4 quart to see if this helps.

  20. Carla

I make two main dishes every weekend for the upcoming week. I think I will give this a try this weekend. Thanks for the recipe!

  21. Kathy

Having for lunch today so will let you know how it comes out. Had to improvise as I was out of chicken broth so used the broth from chicken noodle soup. Hope it comes out well. Having Hoe Cake too with pear preserves! Hope the boyfriend loves it. fingers crossed.

Christy, I’m a mom of 8 kiddos (2 are married and not at home~whew), one hubby and my father in law lives with us as well. I at present have two crockpots and not many recipes. As you can tell I need recipes that serve many and everyone takes leftovers for lunch. Can I get a name of a website or book for large families. Thank you.

  23. jackie

Everything I make in a crock pot comes out greasy! Help!
