Football Showdown Recipes and Tips from Southern Plate!

So I hear tell we have a big old football game coming up next week. I won’t be pulling for any team in particular (growing up in Alabama you either embrace the football fandom or you run from it - and I run pretty fast) but when it comes to football I’m on the side of any team whose fans like to serve food – so with that in mind, here are some recipes that might come in handy!

Stuffed Pizza Sticks

My dad read this post on Southern Plate and immediately printed it off for my Mama to make for him. Since then he’s asked for it on a regular basis.

Mama, you better go get more pizza sauce!

Chicken Planks

Everyone’s Favorite – especially teens and kids!

Be sure to whip up some Comeback Sauce to go with ‘em!

Little Pigs in A Blanket

My daughter’s favorite, these are always a hit with the kids!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork BBQ

Pulled pork barbecue is pretty much heaven on a bun as far as I’m concerned and it seems every region has their own way of doing it. Where I am from, the barbecue is smoked and juicy, served as pictured here or with a little bit of clear mild vinegar sauce poured over it. Here is how to make it!

Tender Babyback Ribs – in the oven!

Love me some Babyback ribs – especially when they’re this easy!

For Quick and Easy desserts, why not try a cake that you can make ahead of time?

If you’re traveling, just pop it in the cooler and off ya go!

I’ve made the butterfinger cake several times. It’s always gone in no time. I really like the easy peasy cherry cobbler. I made one with cherry pie filling and one with blueberry filling. Everyone liked the blueberry one the best. Your recipes are just wonderful and so easy to follow. Keep up the great job your doing.

The chicken planks are a year round favorite at my house. I add some dipping sauces-my fave being honey mustard. Kids like the comeback sauce and of course plain old bottled BBQ sauce is easy enough.

I dont pull for either team but will be watching. Cant wait to see who will take the top spot. We are still ridin high from our bowl win here. Go GAMECOCKS!!!

What kind of non-believer are you!! ;)
You can’t possibly live in Monrovia, ALABAMA and not pull for the Tide!
But keep the recipes coming, they and you are great! (even if you are a football athiest)

  7. Yummy eats! I need to decide what I’m going to do for the big game tomorrow!

  8. Ann

And here I am wishing I was in Alabama to take part in all the festivities and root for our team – it’s just not the same living in Florida – we are always in Alabama for the Iron Bowl and it is so much more fun there!!! We are having chili!! Roll Tide!!!

  9. Debbie

All the recipes look good as usual! Made the oatmeal pudding yesterday with Apples. Pretty yummy! What kind of beans are pictured with the ribs? By the way, please tell “Sue” you can very easily live in Monrovia and not pull for the Tide although I do like her term football atheist! War Eagle from Monrovia!

  10. This will be the PERFECT night to go to Parkway Place Mall!! ;) Not a football fan either!! I made sweet and sour green beans AGAIN yesterday and as usual they were the most eaten side dish on my table!!! Thanks for sharing all these delicious recipes. Gonna have to try that Twinkie cake before they go out of business!!
