Hey Friends! As we head full swing into the holidays ahead my mind is abuzz with menu planning, shopping lists, house preparation, and my heavy events calendar. But the thing I am most looking forward to, the one thing that I do all things for, is spending time with my family. We have family members who come in from out of town to stay several days with us over Christmas and Thanksgiving and so I want to arrange my schedule and all of those to do lists so that we can have a wonderful time but that I can spend as much time as possible with them, rather than in the kitchen.
We plan the big meals but what do you do all of the other times? There are so many fun things to do where I live: driving through the Galaxy of Lights, visiting Santa’s Village, walking along the Tinsel Trail, that I need some quick meals so we can grab, go, and experience Christmas!
These folks below – these are “my people”.
I cook, shop, wrap, bake, set up, take down, wash dishes, deck the halls, and so much more because of these folks – and I want to make as many memories as I can with them. So it is important to me to keep that in perspective and not get sidetracked spending all of my time in the kitchen.
Now you see that man in the middle on the back row? That is my father in law, Rick. Do you know what Rick’s favorite part of any holiday meal is? The ham. As a result, I try to incorporate it in as many meals as I can.
And here comes our quick meal idea for the day.
Nature Raised Farms Ham
There is a new product in Sam’s club that is truly and sincerely, the best sliced ham I have ever tasted. Plus, it has no antibiotics. I don’t know a lot about that stuff but I know that this tastes like a ham I baked and sliced, but all I have to do is open a package and pull out one of the nice thick slices and I’m done. You have got to taste it. There truly is a difference in taste and quality among lunch meats. This can be found in the cooler section at Sam’s Club, where the bacon and other lunch meats are found.
Today I’m just going to show you a quick idea for a family sized sandwich that I throw together in minutes. This is perfect for eating while trimming the tree, wrapping gifts, watching your favorite Christmas movies together, or family game night. No utensils are needed and you don’t even have to dirty up a pan or plate in making it!
We are simple people and we tend to like simple sandwiches so that is how I am keeping this one to make everyone happy. A large loaf of Italian or French bread, Mayo, Shredded cheese, and a package of NatureRaised Farms® Uncured Ham – I only used one package but wanted to show you the whole strip of them so you know what to look for at Sam’s Club.
Now this is where you can customize for your family. Some ideas for add ons are: Mustard, spicy mustard, different cheeses (sliced or shredded), onions, banana peppers, etc.
To make this simply load up your sandwich. I spread a thin layer of mayo on each side and then sprinkled cheese over and added ham on top. Wrap entire sandwich loaf in foil and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through and cheese is melted. Enjoy!
- 1 loaf French or Italian bread
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package NatureRaised Farms ham
- *Please see post for other ideas and feel free to exchange or add your favorite sandwich fixings!
- Cut bread in half lengthwise. Spread mayo lightly on both sides. Sprinkle with cheese.
- Lay sliced ham atop cheese and fold sandwich back together.
- Wrap entire sandwich in foil and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through. Cut into slices to serve.
