Pin it I am THRILLED to be able to post this recipe on Southern Plate from Laura over at Real Mom Kitchen! I asked Laura if she would like to be a guest blogger, knowing she’d bring us something wonderful, but I was not prepared for this level of splendor! As soon as she sent [...]

Pin it I had planned on being a good girl and bringing you another mix yesterday and today, but you know how life can interrupt your plans! I was a wee bit under the weather yesterday and today we had a field trip with Katy’s preschool to Santa’s Village in Huntsville, AL. If you live [...]

Pin it I love making quick breads to give away. They make the perfect little gift and are always appreciated, especially at Christmas time. A few years back, I decided to try tossing some dried cranberries into our super moist banana bread recipe and this was born. My mother instantly fell in love and it [...]

Pin it These pecan pie muffins have been a huge hit on Southern Plate. I’ve had so many readers email me singing their praises that I thought they’d make the ideal gift mix for the holidays! For this packaging, I went for a more “retail” type look and had a good bit of fun making [...]

Pin it I don’t know if pumpkin is a southern thing. You always hear of pumpkin pie on Southern tables at Thanksgiving and such, but no one in my family has ever made a pumpkin pie to my knowledge. I had never tasted anything at all with pumpkin until about three years ago. While on [...]

These are delicious. They taste very butterscotchey, buttery, and pecany. Jeff was right, I would have never had a clue what the secret ingredient was, much less how easy they were to make!

ing the bell and watch the stampede. Oh my goodness, were these ever good! If you want something different in a muffin, if you want a real treat, if you want to pamper yourself, EAT THESE!

I often find with recipes, as with memories, it is the simple things which satisfy us the most. This recipe is the perfect example of that. A classic snack cake that is not too sweet, the simple ingredients make it a breeze to throw together. Add in the full flavor of locally grown apples (preferably from a family orchard trip!) and you can’t go wrong.

I have never known anyone who did not absolutely love these muffins. The cool thing about them, and what my mother liked so much with a large family to feed, is that you can use any type of apple and it makes no difference – they will still be just as good. You can also use those apples that are starting to get a little soft and running out of their shelf life. They work great in here and no one will ever know.

This is my mother’s favorite muffin and there is a darn good reason why. Once made, the batter sits happily in your fridge for up to one month. All you need do is scoop out enough to make your muffins for the day. Only need one or two muffins for your breakfast? Perfect, just scoop out that much and cover the rest to have another day.

This is my family’s favorite use for leftover Banana Bread. They will actually avoid eating it the day I make it in order to have some leftover for french toast! This is beyond delicious and truly heaven sent!

Pin it Another great way to use leftover Banana Bread! This is my personal favorite, although the Banana Bread French Toast is my husband and son’s favorite. Mix up a batch of pudding from the recipe for Homemade Banana Pudding. Instead of pouring it over your Nilla Wafers and Bananas, pour it over a piece [...]

Pin it Grab that leftover loaf of banana bread! As promised yesterday, I am about to give you not one, not two, but THREE things to do with leftover Banana Bread! They are each divine in their own right and none require a culinary degree, just a few minutes in the kitchen! First off, we’re [...]

Leave it to southerners to find a way to make something delicious out of rotting fruit. Alright so “ripe” bananas aren’t exactly rotting but if you’ve seen the state of some bananas that have been behind this moist and delicious creation, you’d know what I mean.

Pin it Hoe cake seems to be a rather elusive recipe, even among southerners. Apart from my own, I have only one friend whose family still makes it. Even among us though, the variations are vast. His family makes it using corn meal as seems to be the custom among recipes found on the web. [...]

From time to time I run across a person who has never heard of apple butter. When I am finished gasping in horror at the wasted life they have led up until that point, I make it my first order of business to slather some on a biscuit and get it to their mouth as soon as possible.
