I have the winners of the Country Bob's Cookbooks!I used this nifty little website to choose two numbers at random between 1 and 39 (the number of comments). Then, I took a really cruddy quality screen shot, so you might not be able to tell that the numbers were 11 and 29!The eleventh comment was made by Leslie from the Hungry Housewife, congratulations! The twenty ninth comment was made by Terri, ... Crock Pot Lasagna
I love how my grandmother says Italian. God love her, she has never known how to pronounce that word. Instead, it comes out "Eye-talian", as in "That Eye-talian food sure is good!". Well, this is one of my Eye-talian recipes. It's very easy (you don't even boil the noodles!), especially when you have your meat already browned and in the freezer just waiting to be tossed in. This is also my most ... Continue Reading
How to tell if you can still use those outdated eggs in your fridge…
From time to time, I like to post little tidbits and hints for all of y'all wonderful people who are kind enough to read my blog. This one has been quite handy for me and is thanks to that $40,000 Home Ec degree I have (which has served me well as wall adornment) so might as well spread the wealth! Ever have an egg in your fridge and you weren't sure if it was still good or not? There is an ... Continue Reading
Crock Pot Oatmeal ~Breakfast In Bed!~
I'm not sure if it is popular or "in" anymore (I'm not sure if anything I do is popular or in anymore...) but I love and adore oatmeal. In fact, the only thing I'd rather have for breakfast than a creamy bowl of oatmeal is one of Mama's ham and cheese omelets like she used to make me. Well, its been about fifteen years since I woke to Mama making me a ham and cheese omelet, so it only makes sense ... Continue Reading
How To Make Peanut Butter Balls
Great recipe for the kids to help with! Peanut butter balls were a staple in our school lunchrooms. Word got around fast on the day the lunch ladies were making them and we all looked forward to the single serving we got on our trays come noon meal. Single serving for everyone but my brother. My brother, who never once passed up a chance to be unusually cruel to me, managed to ... Continue Reading
How To Make Peach Cobbler
Mama isn't kidding when she says "fresh" peach cobbler... This is one of my mother's recipes and she took all of these photographs. I wasn't even there for a bite of it! Mama has always had a way with peaches. In the future, I hope to show you her peach freezer jam and the historical peach crisp we make. She used to make this homemade sour dough bread and we'd eat it hot out of the oven with ... Continue Reading
How To Make French Mint Tea
This is one of my mother's all time favorite drinks in the summer. Of course, when you live in the south, anything served over ice quickly becomes a favorite. This drink, however, is different. Think mint juleps beneath a big oak shade tree. Now place a nice stemmed iced tea glass of my Mama's French Mint Tea in your hand and you're on your way! Mama took these pictures just a few moments ago, so ... Continue Reading
How I process large quantities of ground beef…
I don't always brown my beef this way, sometimes I use the traditional method of cooking it in a pan and standing over it chopping, stirring, chopping, stirring...yeah sometimes I do that. One thing I ALWAYS do though, is cook large batches at once. I never just cook enough for one meal. I prefer to brown at least five to ten pounds at once. I then drain off the grease, cool it, and package it ... Continue Reading

You are going to love this Butterscotch Chow Mein Candy! Today we have our first guest blogger! My son, Brady, has always loved to tinker about in the kitchen. He comes up with fabulous recipes (like when he slices bananas, mixes them with raisins, and tops our waffles with them!). This is his favorite candy to make and so I am very pleased to introduce him as Southern Plate's first ... Continue Reading
