I got to spend today with my sponsor child and his mother, a privilege most people will never have.
Last Day Nicaragua – Speaking Life Into A Child
If you’re a sponsor and have never written to your child, I beg you to write to them today and speak life and hope into their lives. Tell them you love them and tell them you believe in them. I became a writer because someone who didn’t even know me told me at the age of 7 that they believed in me – and they said it with enough conviction that I couldn’t help but believe them.
Words like that, spoken to a young child, can fuel a lifetime.
If you sponsor a child, I can promise you that they have been waiting on your letter.Â

Christy-
I came to your site today to see if there was a winner for the Smoky Mountain Getaway. The Lord lead me to this page instead. Your story and words moved me to tears. You inspire me to be a better person and live my Christian faith. Thank you for sharing your gift. Getaway or not God lead me to one of his angels today, and nourished me with His word! Blessings and have a wonderful day sweetie. 🙂
Some days I feel weeks behind but I know that God’s timing is always perfect! You were where you were supposed to be, with whom you were meant to be with, and followed the Holy Spirit. You have blessed many more of us through your words and wisdom, sharing those with all of us, even more than you do with sharing your love of cooking. Your parents, all of your grandparents (your cup was truely running over) and ALL of your family are to be praised for raising a lady with God imbedded in her heart and soul and so willing to share! Thank you!
When reading your posts about your trip to Nicaragua, I kept thinking of a story by Loren Eisley, “The Star Thrower.” It goes as follows: “One crisp November day, while walking along a beach after a particularly high tide, a man noticed a youth picking up starfish after starfish and throwing them back into the sea. When neared the child, he asked, “What are you doing?”
“These starfish will die if they don’t get back into the water,” the youngster replied as he hurriedly continued his work.
“There are thousands of starfish on this beach,” the man said. “Nothing you can do can possibly make a difference.”
The child held out the starfish he had just picked up. “It makes a difference to this one,” he said, and threw it into the ocean.”
Such a classic story of the power in every one of us to make difference in the lives of others. You are a Star Thrower, Christy. God bless you and keep you.
