I am so grateful to each and every one of you for allowing me to share the recipes and stories from my heritage with you here on SouthernPlate.com. But Southern Plate isn’t just about me and my heritage, it is about you and yours as well. With this in mind, I am thrilled to announce a special Southern Plate Family Recipe Contest entitled “Make Your Grandma Famous”!
I invite you to enter by sharing a beloved recipe (from one of the categories below) as well as the story of the special person who passed that recipe on to you.
Despite the title, the recipes don’t have to be from your grandmother, just from your childhood or heritage. You are welcome to submit recipes from Grandfathers, Fathers, Mothers, Grandmothers, Aunts and Uncles, or just people who were special to you growing up.
The winners will have their recipe and story behind it shared in my next book!
There is no limit to the number of recipes you may submit. I encourage you to submit more than one if possible, to allow for better chances of your recipe and story being printed should the same recipe be submitted by others or should I already have it in the book.
The most important part of this, aside from the recipe, is the story! Tell me about the person who used make this. You may share a story from their life, from your childhood involving them, or just tell me about how they showed you they loved you. Open your heart and share your memories of your beloved family members.
Official Contest Rules may be found here and you have until midnight March 8, 2015 to enter. I and my team of judges will select our favorites from the entries and test them to determine the final ones that will make it into the book. Due to the format of the book, we are limited in the categories of recipes we can use for this.
Categories are:
Sweet Breads, Non-alcoholic Beverages, Cakes, Pies, Cobblers, Puddings, Candies, Cookies, Bars, and Fruit Salads.
Currently, we are planning 20-30 recipes to appear in this special section. Be sure and proofread the recipe before submitting it and if your recipe is chosen I may be contacting you to see if you have a photo of the person it belonged to that we could share as well.
I am so excited and honored to have an opportunity to share your wonderful heritage with the world!
