– All-purpose flour – Granulated sugar – Salt – Active dry yeast – Vegetable shortening – Eggs – Unsalted butter or margarine – Ground cinnamon – Powdered sugar – Milk (or heavy cream) – Vanilla extract
In a large bowl, combine sugar, salt, flour, yeast, shortening, eggs, remaining flour, butter, and water. Stir well. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes. In a separate bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon. Melt butter or margarine in the microwave.
20 minutes, turn out onto a floured surface, knead, and roll into worms. Dip in butter and cinnamon sugar mixture, tie into knots, and place on a greased baking dish.
Cut dough into squares, place in greased baking dish, cover with towels, rise 20 minutes, and bake at 350 for 25 minutes until golden brown.
