asparagus, trimmed to remove the woody ends

Instructions
If using bamboo skewers, place the skewers into a water bath to soak.
Thread a skewer through several asparagus, carefully twisting the asparagus stalk as it slides onto the skewer.

Drizzle the asparagus with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.

Prepare and preheat grill according to the manufacturer's directions to burn at medium-high heat.
Place asparagus skewers on the grill grate. Grill asparagus for about 6 to 10 minutes, turning the skewers halfway if needed so they each cook evenly.
Remove from the grill and allow the skewers to cool (if using metal skewers).
