A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

  1. What a lovely letter. I too am the “mysterious wife”. We bought a farm in need of alot of renovation. my retired husband spent alot of time there while I continued working at my more than full time job. He met every neighbor and their families and knew so much about people I have never seen. Very awkward situation until you actually do get to meet and greet. We have some of the best neighbors now!
I am with you about understanding the first 3/4 of the bible. It makes everything so much clearer in the last 1/4.
I enjoy your recipes too. Keep up the good strong work, enjoy your RV. That is our next venture when the farm is finished the Lord willing.

  2. Yes, I took the time read your letter and I am so glad that I did. The art of Correspondence is getting lost in fragments amongst texts and emails. I miss receiving letters and cards. In the busyness of life, I still try to send a card for more than Christmas or in sympathy. It would be nice if you surprised us with a letter every now then… hint, hint. Thank you for being you and I enjoyed the Bible reference too. May God’s face continue to shine upon you and your family. Peace & Blessings, Dee

  3. Christy: It looks like a lot of folks think your letter was a really good idea. So do I and I think you should do more of them.

I did save your letter as a .pdf in your folder I keep in “Cooking Blogs.”

  4. Thank you for your letter. You are so sweet. I am thankful I found your website. I started out looking for some old fashioned recipes and have been blessed by your stories and uplifting words.

    Thank you
    Melissa

  5. What a wonderful idea, Christy! I’m a letter writer myself. We are indeed blessed with our RV but we never expected to live in it. I live in Panama City, Florida and much of our area was destroyed by Hurricane Michael October 10. We’re going on almost six months in our motor home. I’ve commented that camping isn’t nearly as much fun when the outside scenery doesn’t change! We are parked in our drive way as our house was seriously damaged and is under repair. Hope we’re only in the RV a couple more months! No, we don’t have any camping trips set up anytime soon. Going to enjoy our home!

Thanks for the encouraging words about study of the Word. Have you ever read through with a chronological Bible. I did that one time and found it very revealing for my understanding.

Happy eats and blessings to you and yours, Libbie (-:

  6. Thank you for the letter. It is so nice to hear the latest in our friends’ lives. There is something about reading letters from friends, especially hand written ones. I am 74 years old, but began writing a “penpal” from France, when I was taking French in the 9th grade. Monique and I are still writing hand written letters, after all these 60 years. I was blessed to be able to visit her this past August and, as she said, ” I have known you since I ws 13 years old and feel as close to you as a sister. You are my best friend and confidant and I love you like my sister.” There is something very special about a letter written directly to you. Thank you for taking the time to share with us.

  7. I enjoyed your letter and enjoy your recipes. My wife has been in the Philippines for the last 4 years and I use the recipes here to cook for myself. I always enjoy seeing whats on the Monday recipes. I have saved more than I will ever cook but who knows which ones I will try next. Thanks for keeping me from starving to death while my wife is away! Bless You!
