A letter to you

Today, as I plucked our mail out of the mailbox, I began thinking of how rapidly life has changed. Most days I walk inside with a collection of catalogs and junk mail. I walk straight to the trash and stand over it as I go through them one by one. It is seldom that there is anything left in my hands when I turn around.
From time to time, Mama will send me a letter. Every now and then I get a card from my mother in law. Those are rare occurrences but a special joy when they happen. Then, I got to thinking about you and how it would be neat if I could send my readers actual letters from time to time. I quickly went over the math and cost of stamps and felt a little bit defeated when I saw the impossibility of it all.
But, I had an idea. I could write a letter and post it here, for you to download and print if you want. I sat down to my computer and a few minutes later, I had written a letter to you, a friend.
The letter is below. It’s just a pdf. My hope is that you’ll print it off to read, making it come to life as a real paper letter like we had back in the old days. It was just a silly, heartfelt notion of me reaching out to you and sharing my heart and life as a friend would. So if you decide to complete that connection by reading it, thank you.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you! It felt just like a sweet unexpected letter from a dear family member…which you are. What a bright light in my day. I pray for blessings for you and your family.

  2. How nice to get a letter. I haven’t received one in years. I truly miss that form of communication, as I’m much better in print than in person.
I totally relate to how you & Ricky are. We are the same way. My husband can meet someone in the grocery store & they soon know just about everything about us except our bank acct. number!! I wish I just had a 4th. of his gab.
Spring has only teased us here in Okla. but it hasn’t come to stay yet. My daughter picked me up this morning for an Easter shopping trip & I told her I’d wait out front in the porch swing (which I’ve just moved off the porch into a lovely cluster of trees) & 15 minutes later I was chilled to the bone but too stubborn to call it quits. I can’t hardly wait till I can take a delicious book to my swing for a couple of hours!
Thank you so much for the ‘Read Through the Bible group. I am thoroughly enjoying it. I go to a Christian book club every Wed. also. We read aloud, interrupt with comments & questions, cry & laugh & share secrets. And then eat!! I love it!!
Well, thank you Christy for bringing all of us strangers together – some of us stranger than others!!
We will meet on the other side – hopefully not too far in the distance future!
God bless you & yours & all our Front Porch family.

    I

  3. Enjoyed your thoughtfulness in the letter Christy! I too love letters. I’m actually not much of a computer person but do catch up once in awhile with friends thru the computer and tend to write letters on occasion when I have something special just for their eyes and ears and whether I hear a response or not doesn’t matter, I know I brightened their day. My husband and I also read through the bible and have tried a couple different plans. It’s nice to have someone sharing in the reading where you can bounce around those questions that arise. Your life is an amazing testimony and I thoroughly enjoy your recipes! Thanks so much! Thankful to share in the Love of Jesus Christ, Melody

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to visit with me today, Melody! I completely agree, studying the Bible with your spouse is such a blessing. Our marriage has been tremendously blessed by it. I love how the Word of God is alive and so applicable to every single moment in our lives! Thank you for being here!

  4. Hi Christy!
Thanks so much for the lovely letter, on my birthday, no less! I was remembering today how my aunt used to send me a birthday letter when she was alive, and I was missing getting letters, and then your letter popped up! All the best to you and yours!

  5. How beautiful. I love sending letters and cards, but the cost of postage stamps anymore is really prohibitive. 🙁

    Thank you~

  6. This was so sweet and thoughtful!! I can’t print right now but saving it until I get more ink. Then I will surely print it out. Enjoyed it so much. Miss those days of running to the mailbox with expectations of a letter being there. The internet pretty much became the means for corresponding. But the upside is that, without it, we all wouldn’t have found you to aid us through this wonderful journey of learning so much about the Word. Oh, and not to mention the wonderful fellowship and recipes for some seriously good eats!!! Love you Christy Jordan
