Cut Out Cookies For Santa

I’ve had a lot of folks ask what my favorite cookie recipes are for Christmas cookie exchanges so I’m putting them together in one handy, dandy list to help you with your holiday get togethers. My favorite thing to do is have other families each make one type of cookie and then get together for a big cookie exchange. By making a few dozen of one type and exchanging them like this, we can all end up with a big holiday cookie variety without the mess and also get to enjoy the delicious baking skills of our friends!

For more Christmas treats that are a must have in my family, check out Grandma Lucy’s Coffee Can Bon Bons (p.160), Creole Candy (our version of a praline p.159), Microwave Peanut Brittle (p.162), and Sugared Pecans (p.143) in the Southern Plate cookbook!

Fruitcake Bar Cookies

Candied and Dried fruit layered with cinnamon, brown sugar, and just enough flour and butter to hold it all together until it reaches your mouth!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

These are the cookies that, according to both of my children, make me the absolute best mother in the entire universe.

Chocolate…chocolate…enough said. 🙂

Chocolate Chip Cloud Cookies

My nephew took one bite of these cookies years ago and declared them to taste just like clouds! Crisp and delicate meringue wrapped around chocolate chips – it’s all good here!

Peanut Butter Cookies

Nothing like a good old fashioned peanut butter cookie and a big glass of milk!

Awesome Oatmeal Cookies

Mama’s Milk Dunkin M&M Cookies

Mama always made these growing up and let us decorate the tops with M&M’s before putting them in the oven. We got to use exactly three M&M’s per cookie…

Santa loves ’em

Mexican Wedding Cookies

I love baking from scratch, but I also love being able to turn out cookies as wonderful as this using boxed white cake mix!

Dishpan Cookies

This is one of my personal all time favorites. I like to make ’em really big and put each one in it’s own little bag with curling ribbon at top to give out as treats.

Oatmeal Raisin Scotchie Bars

This is my go to bar cookie recipe, with the addition of butterscotch chips and raisins to make a cookie that is a favorite of my husband.

Pecan Nougat Cookies

Oh. My. Goodness. So. Good. Please don’t leave me alone in the house with them! ~whimper~

Chocolate Oatmeal No Bakes

Always a classic!

Each day comes bearing its own gifts.  Untie the ribbons.

  1. Have a cookie exchange party. They are so much fun and a great way to taste different kinds of cookies without having to bake them all.

  2. Just have to tell you…. a co-worker brought some of the pecan nougat cookies to work and they are wonderful!!!!!

  3. I got all my stuff today to start baking. I get everything organized, like recipes and ingredients together before I start baking.

  4. My tip is to take help where you can. There is nothing wrong with buying store bought baked goods if you don’t like baking or ordering a precooked holiday meal if you don’t like cooking.

  5. When I do my Christmas baking I do up plates of cookies and wrap & freeze them so all I have to do is pull one out of the freezer & serve it.

    1. Best Family Holiday Tip I can give to Others is to create a Holiday Tablecloth!

I started our Thanksgiving Tablecloth years ago when my children were little, but buying a gold Tablecloth writing “We are Thankful for…” and then every year my Husband and I and 2 Children would write what we were Grateful for Most that year and sign it! Over the years it has become rather full and when our Guests saw it They wanted to write on it also. My son who just turned 25 asked over Thanksgiving ” If something happens to you and Dad, who will get the Tablecloth? Me or my Sister”? It warmed my heart to realize that he wanted it, So for Christmas I am starting a NEW CHRISTmas Tablecloth…So I will have two Tablecloths one day to pass on to our Children.
I have given these as Gifts to families for Christmas also.

  6. My tip would be —- to prepare as much as you can beforehand. Plan your menu with items you can store in the refrigerator or freezer. I hate to have 3 or 4 things that need oven time at nearly the same time. The younger age group seems to think when you have punch it’s a special celebration. So, I fix punch. And it does make it seem special, whether at the end of a meal with desert of to drink along with cookies & munchies.

  7. Thanks for doing the round up. It really makes finding all your wonderful cookie recipes SO much easier. I try to choose dishes that can be prepared ahead of time then have last minute touches added in. A few appetizers keep the guests happy while waiting for the real meal.
