How to Make Banana Bread French Toast:

get banana bread toasted

First, we’ll get our bread all nice and toasted. Banana bread tends to be very moist and somewhat delicate so toasting it will dry it out a bit, enabling it to soak up more of our batter, and also toughen it up a bit so that it can withstand the dipping and turning without falling into pieces.

Place your slices on a baking sheet and put in the oven until lightly browned, then turn and let the other side brown. I just put my oven on 400 and kept an eye on them.

  1. Mindless_Rambling: My mother and I got such a laugh out of your comment! I would LOVE to meet the lady who named that dish you mentioned! I bet she was having one heck of a day when she named it!!!

We make the same thing here and just call it french toast…….I definitely like your name better 😀

  2. Pinky, I bet I am too late in getting this to you but here is a great recipe I love to use leftover french bread for.

    Overnight Stuffed French Toast

    8 oz cream cheese
    2 T marmalade or preserves
    6 1 1/2 in slices french bread
    4 eggs
    1 C milk
    1 tsp vanilla

Grease 9×13 inch dish. In a small bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and marmalade. Cut a pocket in the top crust of each slice of bread and divide cream cheese evenly by stuffing it inside the created pocket.

Beat together eggs, milk, and vanilla. Slowly pour egg mixture over the bread slices, making sure to pour over the top. Cover and chill overnight. Bane, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes.
Serve with syrup. I sometimes heat some of the preserves I used to stuff it with and pour that over instead of syrup. This is really good and you can have a nice breakfast first thing without having to get up at the crack of dawn.

Anyway, I’m sure you’re idea will be even better, you just mentioned leftover french bread and ideas and so…….
    hehe

No, I never made banana bread, but as I do have access to all the ingredients, I’m sure I will.

Your banana bread surprise actually made me think of an old Dutch “recipe”. It also takes milk and eggs to soak bread in, although in that case its just plain old white bread and cinnamon was added to the mixture. After baking, it’s sprinkled with sugar. We call that “wentelteefjes” (lol, literally translated, that would be “turned bitches….I didn’t make that up!)

  4. Oh YUMMY!!

I like to take leftover Banana Bread and toast it in the oven then break it up and make Bread pudding with it….well Banana Bread pudding! LOL
