In this video I’ll show you how to use a dehydrator to preserve frozen mixed vegetables for long period of time without taking up precious freezer space! At the end of the video, I also show you what the dehydrated vegetables look like once you reconstitute them and how easy that is to do!

I typed up the captioning for this video myself in order to make it closed captioned so be sure and click the little button in the bottom right if you’d like to “read” the video. For the record, in a ten minute time span, I spoke over 1879 words 🙂

Here is a link to my dehydrator since many of you have asked.

My family has really cut out tv a lot lately, almost down to nothing at all. In it’s place, we find interesting channels to subscribe to on Youtube! There is a lot of great educational and enriching material out there (not to mention cute cat videos), and it’s free! Be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel by clicking here.  If you have young ones, check out my story time videos!

  1. Christy, what brand/model of food vacuum do you have? This looks great – am off to look for a dehydrator now!

  2. Thanks, Christy!

I too treated myself to an Excaliber dehydrator and it never crossed my mind to free up my freezer this way. Can’t wait to try this!

  3. You are a genius! I’d never think of dehydrating frozen foods. I will now, you can be assured! I am curious about the fruits you’ve had success with. We’ve only done apples.

  4. Love this video, just wondering, can you tell me what model number your dehydrator is. I would love one like it. Thanks.

  5. This is wonderful! I never thought of dehydrating frozen vegies. When dehydrating vegetables like peas or beans out of the garden, do you boil them for a few minutes first, or put them right in the dehydrator? You have inspired me to try dehydrating some instead of canning or freezing. Thanks for sharing!

      1. I dehydrated some frozen peas and corn from BJ’s (after reading your post, thank you!). I didn’t blanch them, just tossed them in the dryer and they turned out great. I’m sure there’s a purpose to blanching. Can you tell me what it is, please? Oh, btw, i’m working on my 3rd batch of tomato chips as I type! After seeing your post, that alone inspired me to purchase an Excaliber and begin dehydrating! You’ve created a monster! LOL! Thank you!

  6. Christy,
Thanks for this video. I have a dehydrator that I don’t use enough. I will be doing this!
I have a question. I LOVE your Easiest Ever Creamed Corn and was wondering if you have used the dehydrated corn in that or do you stick with frozen? The texture of that corn is great so I don’t know if the reconstituted works as well.
    Thanks a bunch,
    Merle

      1. Oh Thanks! I COULD live on that! I just had some with your grilled chicken tenders, we gobble that down. My mother is 90 and every time I make that dinner (with a sweet potato) she says “this is the best chicken I ever had”. She completely forgets she had it before. This works great with books and magazines, I just keep recycling past issues;)

    1. I am so glad to have found this wonderful site. I have all of your cookbooks and I highly recommend them to everyone.
I was looking for a good recipe to use to dehydrate my vegetables and I was so happy to find this one. I am disable and I have found so many easy recipes in your cookbooks to make my life easier. Again thank you so much for everything. Jan
