Give A Penny, Get A Penny

Most gas stations in the South have little change dishes by the register. If you’re paying for a transaction and need an extra penny or two, you simply take one from the dish. People then reciprocate this good turn by dropping a few coins in the dish from time to time, thereby creating a community bank of sorts, based on goodwill.

So in that spirit, this is Southern Plate’s “Give A Penny, Get A Penny” page.” I dearly love positive quotes and am always scouring the web for more so I thought this would be a great place to compile all of those. I’ll post mine, you post yours, and we can all “Give A Penny” when we have one and come back to “Get A Penny” when we need one.

I’ll also draw from these quotes to include at the bottom of my posts and emails that I send out to Southern Plate readers and be sure to credit the person who provided it, so include a link to your blog if you have one.

I would consider it a personal favor if you’d take the time to share a quote of motivation or positivity in the comments section below. Quote yourself, your Mama, someone famous, or our best friend “Anonymous”, it doesn’t matter, long as you drop your penny and then come back on one of those days when you feel like you might need one yourself.

Gratefully,
Christy

  1. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
“Its a good day to have a good day!”

“You can’t live a postive life with a negatve mind.”

“Live a life of love, honesty, appreciation, kindess, and strength..sprinkled with a little silliness.”

Don’t forget to: “Listen to God’s voice in everything you do and everywhere you go; He’s the one that will keep you on track.” Proverbs 3:6

  2. I know this is long, but worth the read. This was a song we played at my mom’s funeral. It described her to a tee!

    MAMA’S TREASURES

SHE LEFT ME A FORTUNE AND DIDN’T HAVE A DIME
BUT MAMA TAUGHT ME BEING RICH WAS JUST A STATE OF MIND
AND YOU CAN’T BUY A GOOD NAME WITH A MOUNTAIN OF GOLD
OR CHANGE A PAGE IN THE BOOK OF LIFE WHEN YOUR
    STORY’S BEEN TOLD

    (CHORUS)

    RUBY, SILK AND SATIN
    PRETTY LACE AND RIBBONS
NEVER WERE THE THINGS MY MAMA CRAVED
    HER FAMILY WAS HER PLEASURE
    AND HEAVEN HER TREASURE
AND MAMA WAS RICH IN HER OWN KIND OF WAY

I’VE SEEN THE WICKED PROSPER IN FORTUNE AND FAME
BUT MAMA SAID I’M RICHER FAR IF HEAVEN KNOWS MY NAME
AND YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU WHEN THEY LAY YOU AWAY
WHAT GOOD WOULD IT DO YOU WHEN YOU’RE COLD IN YOUR GRAVE

    CHORUS

THE SWEETEST SOUND I’VE EVER HEARD WAS EARLY MORNING RAIN
PAINTED RAYS OF SILVER LIGHT ACROSS MY WINDOW PANE
THE SOUND OF CHILDREN LAUGHING, A SOFT AND GENTLE SIGH
AND MAMA SINGING, SONGS ABOUT HER TREASURES IN THE SKY
