Or eat them warm because that is extra delicious.

Enjoy these cookies! Seriously everyone loves them, I know you will too!

Storage

  • Place them in an airtight container or zip-top bag to keep them from drying out or becoming stale. Let the cookies cool completely before storing them to prevent any of the chocolate from melting on the bag.
  • For longer storage, you can freeze monster cookies in a single layer on a baking sheet before transferring them to a freezer-safe container. When you’re ready to enjoy them, just thaw them at room temperature or give them a quick zap in the microwave for that fresh-from-the-oven taste.

FAQs

Can I add other mix-ins into my monster cookies?

When it comes to monster cookies, the sky’s the limit when it comes to mix-ins! Here are some fun and flavorful additions you can throw into your monster cookie batter to take them to the next level:

  • Nuts: Chop up some walnuts, pecans, almonds, or cashews for added crunch and texture.
  • Coconut: Sweetened shredded coconut adds a tropical twist and a chewy bite to your cookies.
  • Dried Fruit: Try adding dried cranberries, cherries, raisins, or apricots for bursts of natural sweetness and tanginess.
  • Pretzels: Crushed pretzel pieces can add a salty crunch that contrasts beautifully with the sweetness of the cookie dough.
  • Butterscotch Chips: Swap out some of the chocolate chips for butterscotch chips for a rich, caramel-like flavor.
  • Candy Bars: Chop up your favorite candy bars – like Snickers, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, or Kit Kats – and fold them into the dough for extra decadence.
  • Toffee Bits: Bits of toffee add a buttery, caramel flavor and a satisfying crunch to your cookies.
  • Peanut Butter Chips: Double down on the peanut butter goodness by adding peanut butter chips along with the creamy peanut butter in the dough.
  • White Chocolate Chips: For a sweeter, creamier twist, mix in some white chocolate chips along with the semi-sweet or dark chocolate ones.
  • Pumpkin Seeds: Add a nutty flavor and a bit of crunch by tossing in some roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas).

Feel free to mix and match these mix-ins to create your own unique monster cookie masterpiece. The only limit is your imagination!

  1. Hi Christy! I haven’t baked home made cookies in years but I can’t wait to try these!

I have a question and I’m not trying to be a smart aleck. I’m curious about why we use baking soda if there is no flour in the recipe. I’m sure there is a reason; I just can’t figure it out, lol. Thanks!

Yours is my favorite recipe site. I get such a kick out of your stories and some have even brought me to tears.

    1. Hey Marcia! GREAT question! Baking soda acts as a leavening agent to cause these little gems to puff up a bit, or “rise”. Although we are accustomed to seeing it paired with flour, it does all the work on its own by giving off little bubbles of carbon dioxide. Those little bubbles do work great when they happen in flour, but also work great in these ingredients, too. Here, they just add a wee bit of oomph:). Hope this helps and thank you!

  2. Made these yesterday and they were crazy delicious. I used old fashioned oats, which I loved, and creamy peanut butter, which is what I had. They were such a fun cookie to look at with the pop of the m&m candies. I love how it made a big batch, but I did use a smaller cookie scoop for mine. Thanks for a great winter pick-me-up!!!

  3. These look so delicious. Can’t wait to try these. Thanks! I enjoy your recipes and your stories and words of inspiration. God bless you always.

  4. I read the recipe yesterday morning and made them in the afternoon. I substituted regular M & Ms (couldn’t find minis at the store), used creamy peanut butter (that is what I already had), and made heaping teaspoon size cookies rather than golf ball size. They are delicious. We are planning a wedding this summer and going to have a cookie table at it – these are going on the table! I am not a good “cookie maker” but even I succeeded with these. 🙂

  5. Barbara I bought mine at a local grocer but I have seen them in Wal-Mart. I think they are packed 6 half-gallon size for around $11.
