Folks often ask me how all of this feels, having a book published, traveling around, doing television, and so on. I finally came up with a way to describe it. It feels like there is another Christy Jordan out there living a parallel life. Honestly, that is just exactly how it feels.

I’m just a Mama, sitting here in my living room typing away in a recliner while the washing machine chugs away and the dog chews a bone in the corner. In the course of typing this up I will be interrupted countless times by various sentences beginning with “Mama…” and as soon as I’m done I’ll go into the kitchen and put together supper for my brood. This is normal for me, being in a magazine or on television is something that happens to other people, to important people. For me, it’s something I don’t really digest or think about but on the off day I do it just gives me a good “that’s kinda neat” giggle. Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy it, but I can’t take it too seriously. The way I look at it, if it all ended tomorrow, I’d still be good. I have my family, a roof over our heads, and food on the table. My life is wonderful as is and anything else is just gravy.

Well today we came home from a family weekend getaway where we all went to Mobile. I just so happened to have a book signing (which was the initial Purpose of the trip) but since the whole family went we just considered it a getaway where Mama had to work a little bit :). When I got in I had some interesting packages in the mailbox and I thought I’d share them with you.

Stay tuned for a few of those “isn’t this neat?” giggles…

The Good Cook Feature

This came to me courtesy of Nicole over at BlessTheirHeartsMom.

Thank you SO MUCH for sending this Nicole because I would have never seen it!!

The envelope to the mailing for the Good Cooks Cookbook club featured our book on the back! How cool is that?

And Nicole even included the page in the book that featured our book.

This was SO NEAT to be able to read Nicole. I really appreciate you going to the trouble of sending it!

Featured in Holiday Gift Guide

This is a Holiday gift guide that a lot of book stores are carrying.

Guess what I found inside?

Well thats just too neat!

Ok, so that is at least three star neat!

Wanna know what is FIVE star neat?

THE DECEMBER ISSUE OF GUIDEPOSTS!

I just got my copies! I think it will hit newsstands and be sent to subscribers soon!

With me on the bottom left of the table of contents page.

Apologies to anyone who just lost their appetite..focus on the cake, it’ll help!

Here is the first spread of our story

We shot this during the summer. I bet we were the only folks in Madison who had TWO Velvet cakes in August! lol

Here is the second spread, completely with a recipe and Katy Rose licking icing 🙂

Brady was SUCH a big help during this photo shoot.

I wish we had more pictures of him in it but I’m just going to have to have him guest post soon so y’all can see how big he is getting!

Katy Rose and the icing

The story doesn’t mention the Southern Plate Family or SouthernPlate.com,

but we’re featured again in The Family Room section of that issue and both are mentioned there.

I’m really happy with both stories. The Seven Cakes story really encourages folks to put their heart into Christmas and experience the richness of our families, placing emphasis on time and love over money and store bought gifts. The Family Room feature encourages folks to spend time with their families and how valuable that time truly is. I also love that it is so heavily centered around my Grandmother Lucille, who is just a wonderful person with a heart the size of the grand canyon.

I am honored to be able to speak my heart on things like this in such a wonderful publication and hope you’ll pick up a copy if you can!

So Whats coming up next for Southern Plate?

I’ll be on The 700 Club with a Holiday Dessert bonanza on December 10th

and

The Today Show December 29th with even more exciting things in the works so stay tuned!

Thank you all for all that you have given me. I am so very grateful and I love you so very much.

Gratefully,

Christy 🙂

  1. Wow oh wow oh wow!
I don’t know about you, but I think you and your family being featured in Guideposts is just the most awesome thing ever. Congratulations, and I’ll be watching for you on TV.

  2. Wow! I admire you so much! I don’t know how you have the time to be a mom and do it all. I have to work outside the home just to pay our bills and my mother’s bills, so there is no way that I could ever do anything like this. Congratulations! Keep up the good work! God bless you!

  3. wow wow wow!!! What an incredible blessing, I know you must be scratching your head thinking is this really happening to ME? Congratulations!!

  4. I tell ya, I can’t imagine staying up all night and baking seven cakes from scratch without recipes, especially in a wood-burning stove! Lela must’ve been a heck of a cook! Did your grandmother say how long this tradition continued?

Don’t be silly, that’s a great picture of you!

  5. Woo-Hoo, Christy! I am so excited for you on being featured in the Guidepost and all the other publications. I’ll have to mark down the dates for the 700 club and The Today Show so I’ll be sure and not miss them! YOU are the best and I am so glad that I found your cooking blog! I look forward to seeing what all happens for you in the coming year, as more people get introduced to YOU and your cookbook and Southern Plate. Thank you for all that you do! Be Blessed! Hugs, Deanie
