Come See Me In Florence, Alabama!

I’m so excited to share an upcoming event with you but first I’m gonna give you a little background on why this is such a special moment in my life.

When I was younger, I always dreamed of getting to go to a four year university. I didn’t even know what I wanted to major in, just that I wanted to go to college! My parents had a goal for us, that we would all graduate high school. It was a lofty goal to a lot of folks I knew back in those days, but both of my parents had graduated and they were determined that we would as well. Thinking beyond that was hard to do for folks who were entirely unfamiliar with college beyond hearing about the incredible cost of it all.

Of course, we graduated high school, all three of us, and each of us went to work in some form of career. I worked in a bank for years and loved it. But I still had that dream of wanting my chance to go to a four year university. I took community college classes from time to time but never settled on a set major and only vaguely hoped to get a degree in something. Then, when I was twenty three, I went to visit a friend for the weekend who was attending the University of North Alabama. We spent most of the weekend on campus and I fell in love with the beauty and just the atmosphere of learning. I also learned about financial aid and all of the opportunities for folks to attend college.

A few months later, I quit my job at the bank and moved into a dorm on campus.  It was a long road to get my degree. When I started I had been single but during my time at UNA I met and married my husband and about a year after that became a mother!

I finally graduated with my  Bachelor’s degree in Human Environmental Sciences  in 2002, when Brady two years old. (Human Environmental Sciences is a real fancy way of saying Home Ec). Now I have a wonderful opportunity to go home to UNA and give back a little to my alma mater.

I do hope you’ll join me if you can because I’d LOVE to meet you.

Now that I have given you the official schedule,

let me tell you about it!

This is going to be a FUN evening! In the student center vendors will be set up offering samples of food, registration for door prizes, and more! I’ll be doing a book signing at this time, too, and you can purchase a copy of my book before it hits store shelves on October 5th. I’m so excited about getting to meet everyone one on one!

At 7:00, we have even more fun lined up! We’re going to be moving to Norton Auditorium where I’ll be doing a cooking show on stage making a few of my tailgating favorites. Wanna know the cool part though?

The UNA Culinary students will be cooking along with me behind the scenes and as I finish making each item, the culinary students will magically appear to serve EVERYONE in the audience what I just made! You’ll just get to sit back, sip tea (we’re serving that, too!) and eat along as I cook. How fun! The cooking show will also be filled with door prizes given throughout and we have some FABULOUS prizes from our sponsors.
